True But it will be interesting to see their reaction when I hand them stacks of newspaper reports about the pedophilia issue and ask them how they feel about their organization ignoring the risk to children by continuing to enforce a 2 witness rule?!
friends, this is a sort of poll, directed mainly at -- but not limited to --ex-elders, their wives and kids.
it was my impression that, with the possible exception of meaningful personal prayer, the other aspect of the idealized, exemplary jw lifestyle that was portrayed at the assemblies and at meetings-- the regular, weekly family bible study -- was the one most neglected.
it seemed to be something the ``other" spiritual family did and the one thing we constantly agreed we ``needed to work on.".
I can't imagine now trying to read through the Watchtower once, yet alone study it in advance
It is "milk" - it is watered down so much. I looked through one recently at my mom's house and thought that Green Eggs and Ham offered more insight to the Bible than that issue did.

Oh yea! I wonder if she would recognize me? It was two men this time - but we'll see who they bring back?! I was in that congregation years ago - but it was only for a short time and when I was younger - I doubt any of them would recognize me now.

Atheists are often very grumpy and bitter and will lash out at children or they may even try to trick you into neglecting God's Word.
Oh give me a break!! These people are one of the reasons I get so much gruff when I tell people I'm a Christian!

I just was reading through another post regarding an elder and sexual abuse in Spokane, WA. And I have an idea .................. I shall be gathering newspaper articles for the next several weeks on this subject to hand to them when they return. I wonder what their answer will be to that?

They did offer me a free home bible study (cool - free!! stuff) - but I politely turned it down pointing out the discrepencies in a couple of their teachings with the bible. It will be interesting to see what they have to say when they come back.
So.......should I tell them why I know so much??
i was just thinking on this issue last night - why did god happen to guide me to a more accurate knowledge of the bible instead of the many other sincere people still in the congregation i used to associate.
what makes me so special as to warrant this blessing?
is a good education in bible doctrine the sole criterion for exiting the watchtower when there are many sincere ones who are not natural students who seem permanently trapped in the cycle of watchtower feeding.

I oftened have thought about the same thing. But I think a poster earlier summed it up well - God calls everyone, but not everyone listens. For years I was offered information about the history of JW's from other Christian friends and offered to attend other religious functions (both Christian and non-Christian) - I refused them because I believed that I did not need them. I had the truth and had no need to look elsewhere. This is the case with many JW's now. Stevie - you must have been ready to listen or to consider other possibilities.
To those in the Atheism v. Christianity debate: Those that want to slam Christians or their beliefs - different than the JW's who believe they have all the answers and put down anyone who believes differently. And they are also no different than Christians who refuse to listen to other possibilities. I am a Christian, I believe in God, I believe in creation, and I believe in Jesus. But that doesn't mean I should stop listening to other possibilities and other opinons. The TRUTH will always be there and can withstand any amount of scrutiny. So I am not afraid to scrutinize my beliefs as well as the beliefs of anyone else - that's how we find the TRUTH.
We have ALL been deceived at some point in our life and are ALL capable of being deceived again. This is why it is important to keep an open mind, to listen to all sides.
i was talking with my husband a few nights ago about a situation with my jw family that really upset me.
it is truly a ridiculas situation which my husband (never a jw) agreed, and as i ranted on about their indoctrination and their beliefs he looked at me and said "you're right, but how can you act so shocked, you used to be just like them.".

Damn! He is right. I had exactly the same beliefs and would have behaved exactly the same way.
I have two beautiful children that I love with all my heart. I loved them from the day they came into this world and would have died for them - I would die for them now. But when I was a believing JW I also would have refused them a blood transfusion, believing it was for their eternal benefit. I would have let them die.
There but for the grace of God go I.
I guess sometimes I need a reminder that we are all only human, and we can all be mislead to do things even though we have the right heart and the best intentions.
I thank God that he did not let me make a decision I could not live with now.
