I reckon this year will be a poor year for releases - maybe a brochure at best , boosted with a tract and cd or video of some description. With the demise of the "book study" , the WTS don't need to produce a new book every year. And with the credit crunch & the WTS struggling to raise funds the accountants will have urged caution.

Get your barf buckets ready for the new JW email.........
by still_in74 ini got this sent to me recently.
its about an earthquake that jw's survived thanks to the wts's instructions on how to prepare.
of course though, all the deaths are not the fault of the earthquake but rather the catholic church for not preparing the people like the wts had the dubs.

Here is another JW email on the Italian earthquake (memo to self - must start putting junk filter on these emails). Why do JWs always have to insist that they are first on the scene?
We're sure you heard about the earthquake here in Aquila, and we thought you might like to hear how the story is unfolding. The earthquake hit in the early morning hours and by 9:00 AM wed. we had a special meeting at the KH in Aquila with brothers from bethel, CO’s, DO’s and local elders with the regional construction crews.
Some of the families were sent down to the assembly hall in Roseto where they had trailers waiting for them so they’d have a safe place to stay. The tremors continued and there was a particularly large one felt all the way down in Rome within 24 hrs. of the first.
One sister relates how she and her brother started looking right away for the friends and helped several that were blocked inside of their houses. There were a few of the older ones that were not responding to their cell phones and couldn’t be located temporarily. You could imagine the immense joy when everyone met on the pre-assigned plaza and everyone was accounted for!
One young pioneer wrote a SMS on the cell phone: “Don’t worry about me, I’m staying with a family of brothers I just met. They bought me a re-charge for my cell phone which is now my only possession and I’ve been keeping in touch with the friends. This will be the first Memorial that I’m not worried about what I’ll be wearing. None of us have anything but the shirt on our backs and we don’t even care! We are happy to be alive and attend another Memorial together with all the brothers that thankfully made it.”
Another wrote, “ At the assembly last week we were reminded about the sadness that Jesus felt when his cousin John the Baptist was be-headed. Remember that he withdrew to be alone but a crowd arrived and he ended up witnessing to them, building a hope in their hearts for the future. That is exactly what is happening to us here in Abruzzi. Several of us felt the need to withdraw and mourn over our loss, but it was impossible.
There were too many people mourning with no hope, no future. We ended up witnessing, taking care of them and inviting them to the Memorial. We were still sad at the end of the day but not empty.”
The brothers set-up a trailer-city which you can easily spot from the village of Popoli in a parking lot of a commercial center. There are now some 70 trailers there and the brothers that were down in Roseto at the assembly hall have returned to Aquila. They set-up a tent in the parking-lot in front of the K.H. there in Abruzzi for the Memorial and there was 118 present. Another 111 were still down in Roseto for the Memorial.
The assembly hall in Roseto was quickly converted into a deposit with clothing, blankets, food, water, supplies etc. contributed by the brothers from all over Italy. In one parking lot in a neighboring village (Foligno) a man came up to some of the brothers loading a truck with boxes. He asked who they were and where they were sending it to. They explained they were Jehovah’s Witnesses and that they were preparing this for their brothers and anyone else in need in Aquila. He right away contributed several cases of food form a large chain-food store stating, “I’m sure this will get to those in need with you people”.
Several congregations flat-out bought camping trailors for the brothers to have a place to sleep at night and sent them to Aquila. Others put together packages of clothing to have ready before the Memorial and everyone sent food and other needed items. The town remained pleasantly surprised at how fast bethel together with the regional committee sent specialists into the area to insure water, electricity, medical personal, food & sustenance to the locals there. As usual, they were the first to respond and be on hand.
We had 390 here in Florence for our Memorial in Spanish and we're up to about 130 publishers divided into 2 congregations & 1 group. We were only 180 for the Memorial 3 years ago so the huge wave of immigration is working to our advantage in this field. Italy is barely hanging on by it's seams with the ever increasing population, but it's ok with us. -

Marrying a divored person who was abandoned?
by betweenworlds indoes anyone know what the watchtower's stance is on marrying a person who has been divorced on grounds of spousal abandonment?
the person who was divorced is not a jw, and the other person is inactive, but baptised and is currently going to meetings.
if they were to marry would any action be taken against the baptised person.

Marriage by someone who isn't "scripturally free to marry" is very common in the JW world and is one of the few situations which leads to a guaranteed DF. Usual procedure is a reinstatement within 10 - 12 months following a couple of letters -sometimes a kindly elder on the JC will initiate reistatement. No repentance need be shown (how could it be?), just an element of sadness & depression (which is inevitable as most of the JW's friends have been shunning them over this time.)
Sometimes it is possible to overcome this - there have been a few creative methods used over the years to circumvent the rules. I recall one situation where a sister & her husband (both JWs) broke up & neither were free to marry. The sister then admitted to a JC that she had secretly comitted adultery while she was married some years previously but felt very sorry about it now & was privately reproved. This then freed her ex-husband to remarry. And when he had re-married , she was then free to re-marry.

Could the Holy Spirit Lead in Opposition to the "Spirit-Directed" Organization?
by compound complex in.
of course, i realize that not all members of the board would have a belief-basis to answer the above.. for the sake of discussion, however, do you see examples - biblical [applicable in our day] or extra-biblical - wherein an individual intent on serving god in loyalty and truth could be directed by his spirit to act courageously against the society's enforced "conscience"?.
thanks.. coco .

I suppose the obvious question would be why the holy spirit hasn’t intervened on any previous occasion in the last 140 years.
Why , for example , didn’t it intervene when Rutherford performed his coup to take over the WTS. An obvious occasion for intervention would be when Franz , Dunlap et al were trying to reform the WTS in the late 70’s.

Question for Any current Elders or recently departed elders
by geevee ini have been asked about a situation in which a former witnesses ladies now ex-husband has been caught exposing himself, and this has gone on for at least 15 years.
he has also exposed himself to some close family members.
the question relates to the wt explaination of "porniea".

He certainly would not be regarded as an upstanding member of the congregation (hmm - perhaps unfortunate terminology). But not JW "scriptural" grounds for divorce.

EPO still seems to be a controversial treatment for premature babies – naturally not too many parents are keen for their children to be used as guinea pigs. Ironically it was EPO that helped the twins in the Rachel Underhill case who went on to be very much a JW critic.

Who really is the slave? The Governing Body!!!
by Ultimate Reality inwith the june 15th article (on jw.org) about the slave and governing body, we can see the planned progression of breaking the slave from the domestics.
therefore, lumping the claimed-anointed and the great crowd in the same group for all intents and purposes.
7:9;john 10:16) should not individual members of the anointed and the "other sheep" trust the slave appointed over them?

Somewhat of a side point , but the expression "Faithful Steward" is becoming increasingly the norm , in the Watchtowers & WTS publications. I understand that COs are being told to use this expression in their talks and speak about the "Steward Class" rather than the "Slave Class". I don't know the reason , but I suppose they may feel the conotation is better.

Newly "annointed"...
by lurk3r inthese ones who are in the organization that are "newly" annointed, it would seem they are kinda screwing things up for the gb and the society.
heard of what "spiritual" experience these ones go through, to have them identify themselves as such?
do all the "144,00" go through similar experiences.

He finally mentioned that he was in tune with certain things such as the earth rotating beneath his feet.
I'm glad that the "anointed one" felt that he could feel the earth move on occasions!
I'm still puzzled as to what is going on with this "anointed" mechanism. It seems to be some kind of emotional experience not dissimilar to the "born again" feeling that some have. The fact that statistically numbers jump when the WTS "softens" their line (eg May 1 2007 WT QFR) and reduce when they tighten up shows that people are influenced by what they read - but that is just one factor.
And yes - I've known quite a few anointed to be df'd. And reinstated.

A few points I noticed:
Family worship evening (or Family Worship – now capitalized like Governing Body) is very much focused on the ministry – parents are encouraged to have practice sessions etc. And I thought it was about studying the bible together…
More counsel about avoiding wastage of literature.
Teach with Simplicity – the preaching is being dumbed down almost to a kindergarten level – “What to say about the magazines” is embarrassingly simple.
