  EVASION! How to blank out what you don't want to know

  The problem is not a lack of thinking by JW's because all they ever go on about is knowledge, knowledge,knowledge (John 17:3 ad nauseum). The problem is what they think about. Their problem is a lack of considering all sides of the argument. They wilfully choose to only think about what their own leaders feed them.

  Methinks that what we're really after is critical thinking skills. It is well-established that meditation, i.e., emptying the mind of thoughts for a period of time, is healthy - it lowers blood-pressure, helps one to sleep, gain clarity, etc.

  However, you don't want to be practicing meditation while you're navigating traffic on the freeway!

  Likewise, when you are evaluating a "truth" or an "untruth" - a religious belief, for example - you want to be fully alert, using your intellectual capacities to their fullest...............

  JWs allow themselves to be put into a trance - ripe for brainwashing....

  What did you take with you when you left the organization?

  leaving the organization, it is like packing for a journey you can choose what you take with you, and what you leave behind (other than people).

  there are things i chose to take with me.

  for example, i have used the sales training to my advantage over the years.

  i just heard from back home (puerto rico), about this elder i know (i was good friends with his daughter), that just got df'd for homosexuality.

  this is how the story goes:

  he was an elder for over 20 years and he even claimed to be of the "annointed class'.

  Are the number of gays in the bOrg consistent with a cross-section of any specific population? In other words, being a JW doesn't make you gay, right? Our society's viewpoint in general influences people to suppress or deny their homosexual tendencies. The unfortunate thing is - look at the fallout when these people go ahead and marry and start a family and then can't maintain the double life.
  

  
  
  I was engaged many years ago to a very handsome young brother that I believe had this problem*. We broke up (thank god!) and he married the girl back home that his folks picked out for him. Six weeks later they were divorcing. I always wondered............
  

  
  
  *By "problem" I mean the denial of his true nature - not that being gay is a "problem". Jeesus! It is really hard being PC sometimes! Does it help to say that my best friend is a lesbian?

  You know, some hot shot in the Writing Department, just goofing around on a dull afternoon around 1968, thought he'd get a chuckle out of the other drones.......and forgot to tell them it was a parody.......but everyone got so excited.....he didn't have the heart....to burst the bubble.........Knorr thought he got it from Franz and Franz thought..........oh, well, you see where this is going............?

  my firstborns son's mother i live with asked me today if i wanted anyone else.. i replied "yes, i want to know every unmarried woman on earth, so i can insure i will never feel like i missed out on something.

  i want to find my match, a woman that can convince me to give up my free agent status, and spend forever as her property alone.

  Your child's best interest is to have a mom and dad together. If that is not possible, think about the difference between breadth and depth. Knowing every possible match gives you breadth, but not depth. Two different experiences. You really can't have both unless you live to be a few centuries old. Which you won't. In fact, your days may be numbered after that little statement.

  Are caricatured portrayals of JWs counterproductive?

  years before i stopped being a jehovah's witness i came onto sites like this one, out of curiosity.

  i found that alot of the postings were depicting the jw organization as a harsh, unloving, brainwashing cult.

  i found this portrayal to be completely opposite to my long years of experience as a jw ( and still do ).

  if one of the main aims of this site is get JWs to question whether they should continue 'in the truth' would it be better ( As many already do ) to use more measured language in our postings and to have a more forensic approach to our criticisms of the Bible and the WTS? Had that been the case years ago, I suspect I would have left JWs much earlier than I did.

  I see your point. However, I suggest that there a numerous sites with varying degrees of "forensic" scholarship for the serious student. Many (most?) ex-JWs on this site have made up their minds long ago - over 30 years for me - and seem content with a place of support and a place to vent and, well, fellowship - like grateful survivors of a horrible disaster. Being a JW has bonded us in a unique way.

  I personally am not a "serious student" of the fallacy of JW dogma - it would be, for me, like spending my time proving that the earth is round - why bother? I am convinced and have experienced

  the JW organization as a harsh, unloving, brainwashing cult.

  I believe that getting out is often just a matter of timing - "when the student is ready, the teacher will appear."

  Excellent point, Blondie. And another example of them playing the fiddle any old way they want. These inconsistencies, taken one at a time may be easily dismissed, but there is a pattern developing, and even more importantly, it is coming under more and more public scrutiny.

  Add to this the instructions to the congregations to "destroy" old directives when they are replaced by new ones. Suspicious don'tcha think?
