i was talking with an old friend of mine who had gone to the assembly just a couple of weeks ago.. he told me the story of a young boy, who went with his mother door to door all his life, from a very young age.
apparantly, the boy was upset when his mother when to pioneer school without him back when he was 4 years old or so.
but, of course, he was too young to attend the school, so his mother went without him.. the boy is now 11, a regular pioneer, baptized, and very disappointed for he will not be allowed to go to pioneer school until he reaches the minimum age, 16.. what a fine example everyone!!.

in the last couple of days ive been reading info on the un & wts ...so have been pretty absorbed with the amount of info out there on the wts...
anyway...it hasnt been that long since i left the wts...and a close friend of mine (never a witness) said to me ,twice now, and rather strongly again today...
"its over, you have left, get over it...your obsessed with this, who cares, just get over it before it drives you mad...its really pathetic"
Lady Lee, well I figure he has his Texas Longhorns board, so I can have a Ex-JW board.
I think I'm here because I can't completely move past it. My entire family is still in (except for a sibling who is in the military - in Iraq right now - no less)

My husband, never a JW, feels the same way. He doesn't understand my need to read this board & hash out how wrong the Borg is.

Facing a 'Britishness' Test??
Sep 3, 10:10 am ET LONDON (Reuters) - Immigrants to Britain might have to demonstrate English language skills and their "Britishness" to gain citizenship, the government said Wednesday.
"Life in the United Kingdom," a report which recommends the tests, comes as the government tries to calm fears that the country is becoming swamped with asylum seekers and illegal immigrants.
"The new requirements are to be seen not as a new hurdle but as a much needed entitlement," said the government-commissioned report. "Those who become British citizens should ... have a sense of belonging to a wider community."
The concept of citizenship tests have been a controversial issue in Britain ever since Norman Tebbit, a leading lieutenant of former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, notoriously suggested a "cricket test," under which immigrants could only be classified as British if they cheered for the England cricket team
Over 100,000 would take the new tests each year, under the new proposals. Those failing would not be asked to leave, but they would be refused a British passport or the right to vote, said Sir Bernard Crick, who chaired the group behind the report.
"We are trying to ensure people are capable of integrating in society," Home Secretary David Blunkett told BBC radio. "How can you build a cohesive society if people can't communicate?"
The government has pledged to halve the number of asylum claims within the space of a year. It has until October to meet that pledge.
Last year, Britain topped the European league with 103,000 claimants, a 20 percent rise year on year.
The report group rejected suggestions that immigrants be coached in British history, instead opting for British democracy; multiculturalism; legal rights and employment opportunities.
don't know if this was posted or not but after reading this story the moral is that we should always have a chaperone with us wherever we go!

Ok, it's not weird here. I think it may just be the JW's. My neighbors are friends of these morons (they are JW's - they don't know about my history) Right after they were found, they were on the bandwagon about the sheriff's dept being at fault. Then all of a sudden, I asked them about it this morning & they clamed up.
Just so you know, no one else in the valley is even talking about this. It was on the local news, and everyone moved on.

Johnny Depp Likens U.S. to 'Dumb Puppy'
Sep 3, 11:00 AM (ET)
BERLIN (AP) - American actor Johnny Depp likened his native country to a "dumb puppy that has big teeth" in an interview published Wednesday, ridiculing Washington's confrontation with France, where he lives, over the war in Iraq.
The "Edward Scissorhands" and "Sleepy Hollow" star, who spends much of his time in the south of France with his companion, Vanessa Paradis, and their two small children, told the German magazine he couldn't see himself paying more than short visits to his Los Angeles residence in the present political climate.
"America is dumb, is something like a dumb puppy that has big teeth - that can bite and hurt you, aggressive," Depp was quoted as saying.
Depp recalled that French fries were renamed "Freedom" fries in the House cafeteria on Capitol Hill at the height of U.S. anger over France's refusal to back the administration of President George W. Bush over the war in Iraq.
"Nothing made me happier than when I read that - grown men and grown women in positions of power in the United States government," Depp said. "I was ecstatic because they revealed themselves as idiots."
Depp said he wanted his two children, ages 1 and 4, to experience the United States "like it's a kind a toy - a broken toy maybe. Investigate a little bit, check it out, get this feeling and then get out."
for some of us on this forum, we're so far away from one another.
out of curiosity, do any of you have any photos of where you are from, or the communities that you live in?
here's one of toronto.
from my experience, and im fairly young so i still have a lot to learn, but i found that being honest can be very difficult and it also takes a good level of trust from both parties.
one night my fiance and i just sat and told each other everything about our past, you know, (if i tell him that he might leave) that kind of stuff.
well i'll tell you it was one of the most difficult things i've ever done.
nope, but he gets to hear the highlights.
