  I have an SUV (a Suburban). I have two kids, a dog and loads of gear (camping and otherwise) I feel completely justified in owning my SUV. I'd like to see a minivan tackle the Rocky Mountains - or my driveway for that matter. Here, where I live, if you don't have a four-wheel drive vehicle - you end up relying on your neighbors to take your kids to school/to get to work/grocery store. Yes, around here if we have a big snow (often) they don't run the school buses - but your kids are expected to be at school. There is no such thing as saying "Sorry I was late for work, but it snowed"
