Apologies if this has already been posted, but just noticed on jw.org that as well as a 'convention' search there is now a 'meetings' search.

how can we account for animals in isolated lands when the flood is said to have covered all the earth and the only land animals that survived were those in the ark?p.
It is approximately 7,000 miles from Ararat to South America. (via a large wet blue section now known as the Atlantic, ridged or not ridged).
If the two sloths on the Ark (two toed or three toed variety I'm not sure which ones Noah took) travelled a foot a minute for 8 hours a day it would have taken them about 210 years to reach their destination. Average life span is about 20 years.
Sloth arrival was therefore about 2160 BC.
i know this has been said a thousand times already but oodads posting reminded me of when i got to thinking about the generation teaching at a family get together we had a couple of months ago with some witness relatives and so much wanted to ask this question at the table.
imagine it is the year 1914, and jesus walks into the room and sees these four generations of males.
he says ''this generation will by no means pass away until all these things occur''.. which of the four generations is he talking about?.
Oodad, yes it is very stupid reasoning.
At our mealtable great grandfather and grandfather are Witnesses. Father and son are not. It was the grandfather who commented on how nice it was that there were four generations of the same family at the table. I wanted to say 'yes but actually all one generation' but then realized even that wasn't quite correct in WT land.
We needed several more generations to come along over the next 90 years to still be the 'this generation' that Jesus evidently was referring to.
By the way, this is not a picture of my family.

I know this has been said a thousand times already but Oodads posting reminded me of when I got to thinking about the generation teaching at a family get together we had a couple of months ago with some Witness relatives and so much wanted to ask this question at the table. But didn't.
Imagine it is the year 1914, and Jesus walks into the room and sees these four generations of males. He says ''this generation will by no means pass away until all these things occur''.
Which of the four generations is he talking about?
None of the four in the picture. It is the generation that is going to come along in about 90 years time when the oldest three generations are dead and the baby in the picture is at death's door. That is the generation Jesus was addressing when he walked in to the room and saw the men in the picture.
We had four generations of the same family around the table and one of the Witnesses did comment on it. Not wanting to start an arguement I refrained from pointing out my take on the generation teaching.
just a ?
as ive got cobe and my daughters fil coming round nxt wk to grill me, first time 2 of the blighters have turned up together so im expecting the inevitable.
by the way not been to a meeting in 2.5 yrs after 35 yrs in the b/s,and just wondering how much they pressure to get the answers they want.
No. I told them respectfully that after researching the society's own literature and history I no longer believe the Governing body are who they say they are. Nothing happened.
Personally I think they won't believe you anyway if you lie to them otherwise why aren't you at the meetings?
By telling them the truth I feel I have kept my self respect and they will respect me for being honest.

Me too. However I thought this only happened to God's true people. The current ones that is, not his first bunch.
Swap 'Jew' for 'Witness' and this would be on the Arse mbly rounds.

She was on a train in September 1938, bound for a ferry to England, when it was stopped at a Belgian border station. An announcement was made over the loudspeaker that all Jews should disembark.
With a heavy heart, Natalie reached for her small suitcase. But what she did not reckon on was a group of nuns, in whose carriage she was sitting.
Natalie Huss-Smickler's first servant job saw her work 15-hour days, with only half a day off a week
"The nun next to me put her arm round me and said, 'Sit down. You're not going out,'" Natalie says. "I said 'I'm Jewish.' The nun said, 'You're one of us. Sit down,' and she pressed me down."
So the young Jewish girl sat with the Catholic nuns, nervously awaiting her fate as Jewish men, women and children poured off the train and were lined up on the station platform, bound for concentration camps.
What happened next became an unforgettable moment in Natalie's life.
"There came an inspection. A big SS man looked into the window at me and my heart was in my knees. He saw me with the nuns, gave me a nice smile, winked and walked on. I was saved. I was probably the only Jew to get through."
for all the criticism of jehovah's witnesses' shunning policy, if one (an ex jw) were to deliberately avoid contact with witnesses and, dare i say, shun them, does that mean that one is just as bad?.

For all the criticism of Jehovah's Witnesses' shunning policy, if one (an ex JW) were to deliberately avoid contact with Witnesses and, dare I say, shun them, does that mean that one is just as bad?
..specifically, the suffering of animals.
you can talk about free will/sin/people choosing to not listen to god etc to explain human suffering being allowed.. but how can you love a god that allows animals, that haven't sinned or chosen to not have anything to do with god, to have their short lives ended in often long, drawn out, painful ways.
i could list stories i've read that would probably make you feel ill, but i'm not looking to shock anyone or start an emotional debate.
Am I correct in saying that animals did not suffer prior to the year 2370BC? They simply died of old age? There was no predatory activity before that date was there?
Or am I a lunatic?
