The Kindness of Strangers

something really nice happened to my sister today.

she was sitting outside the airport where she works, waiting for her ride home.

a man sat down next to her and pulled out a cigarette.

I see this type of scenario daily, from other people. "Worldy" people realize that this is the here and now, and that we should help each other out through acts of kindness... yet on the other hand, I cannot count on one hand how many times JW's helped out the less fortunate - even their own. I remember one brother (elder) who is a millionare (from daddy) and spends all his free time rebuilding exotic and antique vehicles. One sister lost her husband to cancer and she was dirt poor. They were taking donations for a USED refrigerator and when they asked this brother to contribute he refused saying that if she had enough money to feed her dog, then she could afford a refrigerator. I saw examples of this time after time and it made me sick...

In fact when I had a life and death experience in my life several years ago and was evaced out to a different city for medical attention, the ONLY ones who came to my bed side were friends and co workers who drove over 250 miles to see me and offer assistance. NOT ONE JW from my cong showed up... tells you who your REAL friends are...

Why is there something rather than nothing?

i suppose both theists and atheists can answer this question, although if theists do, maybe they could explain why it is they believe god made creation and they are free to quote scripture if they choose.

for my own answer i believe he made it because he loved it and therefore made it exist, because it was therefore good (genesis 1:31 and god saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good.

i'm especially interested though in the answer from the perspective without faith.

With over two hundred billion galaxies in the universe, and more being discovered every single day, it is mathematically certain that we are not alone. I firmly believe in the Sumerian and other ancient texts that indicate that the gods were nothing more than an advanced race that made man as a slave race. To believe that we are the only creatures in this universe is insane and not logical. For me, its fun to speculate where we came from, but why bother? We will never know, and it just hurts my brain... did we evolve? Who knows. Yet I do now from my research that "god" is not who you think it is, given the plethora of ancient texts and writings. Which then begs the question where did this other race come from, and on and on...

String theory and other sciences have indicated that this entire thing may be a matrix of sort - waves of individual frequencies given the appearance of reality, when in reality we are all of the same source, with differing frequencys of energy giving the perception of individuality, reality and solid, tangible objects...

Now what do I do?

for those of you that know my plight....i need to know your opinion.

summary - i developed a piss poor, combative, rebellious attitude toward the society many years ago.

my wife saw it and hated it.

As other have mentioned DO NOT get sucked into the meeting with the elders. They will simply DF you when they realize that you are "unrepentent" of your apostasy. They will encourage your wife to take a stand and that this is Jehovahs will. They will simply force your wife to chose between her husband or Jehovah (where eternal life exists). They will tell her that by her faith she can save you and hopefully she can win you over again. They will tell her that in order to save her children she must agree with the elders. Trust me, I almost went the distance before I realized that I was fucked. The only saving grace I had was that I threatened to sue them individually. At which point they backed off. When she has her meeting on Sunday and sees you and your kids getting ready for a GREAT time somewhere else, she may fight you on this, especially since she sees the meetings as her childrens salvation. Explain that missing ONE meeting won't hurt. Have the time of your life... two things will eventually happen - your kids will no longer want to go to meetings and your wife will feel left out, hearing all the GREAT stories being told when she gets home hearing of your adventure. Women naturally want to be a part of something and next time you set up an outing she will reason that missing one meeting isn't that bad... one leads to more, and more, until YOU can finally win her over to see reason and logic!

You approched this the wrong way. If you get DF-d the elders will encourage your wife to leave you. Trust me, I was down this road. You need to make a 180 degree change. DO NOT talk about the WTS any longer, no more negative stuff to your wife, let it completely go. What you need to do is take the back door approach and show your wife that you are HAPPIER without the borg. Take your kids to B-day parties, set up parties for them, celebrate the holidays, go out on the town... basically show your wife that people who leave are HAPPIER and are not falsely given the stigma (according to WTS) of dog vomit.

If she wants to talk about the WTS, don't respond and tell her you have moved on, it means nothing, and that she will find her own way in due time. Show your kids that you can be "wordly" - hate that word - and still be a moral individual, be happy, and enjoy life.

The greatest thing that worked for me was taking time away from my spouse to go to meetings by filling the void with nights out on the town, special events, vacations, etc. Eventually they missed so many meetings they never went back. It was AT THIS POINT that they were ripe for anti-preaching and actually let me explain to them WHY I left. To this day we have not set foot in a meeting, are both happy, and she enjoys life realizing that religion is 100% BULLSHIT... good luck.

think about this from a logical perspective.

you are the ceo of a large corporation.

during a general assembly to your stock holders and employees, a lone worker comes up to the podium, and in front of thousands of his co-workers and managers proudly tells the ceo that he bets all his company stock and dignity that he, the lowly worker can run the company better.

During a general assembly to your stock holders and employees, a lone worker comes up to the podium, and in front of thousands of his co-workers and managers proudly tells the CEO that he bets all his company stock and dignity that HE, the lowly worker can run the company better. The CEO looks at the lowly worker, and all the onlookers and proudly exclaims that he will take that bet and give the worker a set amount of time to prove otherwise.

Now here is the problem, set within religion. They feel that Satan is in control and that the bet of Universal Sovereignty was initiated. However, the world conditions (SHITTY) are because of Satans control... what? Why would Satan, or put more locally on a level all can understand, why would the lowly company XYZ worker slit his own throat and allow things to crumble much to the pleasure of the CEO? He wouldn't!! He (either Satan or lowly worker) would bust their ass to insure that things were running top notch, that the world or company operated BETTER than ever it could under the CEO (God). Only a FOOL would take the bet and allow things to turn to shit only to be mocked by the CEO and fellow co-workers.

So you see, either this is Paradise (which means under Gods rule things would be worse), or the story is bullshit, OR God himself is throwing a wrench into the works and cheating on the bet. Either way you look at it, it makes no sense and is not logical plausible for someone or a higher entity to take a bet and renege!

Do you think mankind as a whole will get to meet the Third Kind in our life?

i'm sure we have been visited by the third kind, but i am referring to a time, within our lives, where as a whole man will be visited and see them.

i know mother shipton, maya, sumerian, and others all reference a future (in all aspects similar to our modern time) when the "gods" will return and help men ascend to a new level.

personally, i don't think such an event is too far fetched..

Yes, I actually love that show. However, I have spent time in archeological ruins with friends, who are very well respected in their fields, and they have even mentioned to me that they DO NOT know how such things were made, given the tool and time, and have also indicated that they believe the ancients had "help"... they also mentioned that many in the community also feel this way, but due to politics they refrain from spouting such ideals in publications or in public.
