Why the fetish with NICOTINE???
by sinis ini have smoked, i quit, but now enjoy alternatives such as e-cigs, snus, and even the gum.
i find that nicotine has a nice mental enhancement, has several medical benefits and actually may help individuals to relax and focus.
now the question is this, why does the wts have such a fetish with nicotine?

Its not the nicotine its the carrier, ie tobacco. King James taxed the hell out of it because:
While the whole world was excited about the newly discovered tobacco, there were some people unhappy with it. King James I wrote, "Smoking is a custom loathsome to the eye, hateful to the nose, harmful to the brain, dangerous to the lungs, and in the black, stinking fume thereof nearest resembling the horrible Stygian smoke of the pit that is bottomless."
King James I did not like the idea of smoking and tried a lot of things to stop tobacco. Since doctors were using tobacco to cure diseases, they were upset that people were buying it without prescription because they were losing money. Knowing James' opinion about tobacco, they came to him for help. The next year, in 1604 the king increased the import tax on tobacco by 4,000 percent: from 2 pence/lb to 6 shillings 10 pence/lb.
At that point the using tobacco grew so much that there were 7,000 sellers in London alone. However, the tax increase really did its job. People were not able to pay a high price like this. The country officials were working hard on proving to the king that tobacco tax could have brought a really high profit to the treasury if it went lower, so he lowered the tax to 2 shillings/lb and the tobacco fans started buying it again.
Although James I had to change his intension to eliminate tobacco use by high taxes, he was still a staunch anti-smoker. In 1604 he wrote a book, Counterblaste to Tobacco, which clearly showed his attitude to smoking and unveiled all known tobacco-use flaws.
First of all, the king pointed out that the herb was introduced neither by king, nor by great conqueror, nor by learned doctor of physics, but was adopted from "unbaptized barbarians [Indians in the Americas]". Because of such doubtful origin of tobacco James wanted the users to "prove both necessary and profitable" application of it...
It would seem Gubermint does not want anyone to have any pleasure...

A bunch more out there. I have some friends who are researchers that work with nicotine and are finding some very useful properties for it...

Makes complete sense!! Took me about a year to ditch everything. I always felt guilty, confused, did not know what to do, etc. Then it dawned on me, live life. Make new friends, normalcy will come. Well ask yourself, what kind of life do you want? Do you want to go back to school? If so do it. Travel? Do it. Nothing is keeping you back. Goals in life? The sky is the limit when JW dogma is not holding you back. You have escaped Shawshank, made a clean break, now find your ocean front cabana. If you keep lingering you may in fact walk back into the wardens office asking for directions which will get you time (still a JW, at least mentally) or execution (DF'ing) - either way why return to the vomit? Stop thinking about the old way, limitations, etc. Sit down with a pad and a pencil and make a list of things you would like to do, that you never did before. Hell, maybe get a little daring and smoke that dominican cigar with a nice glass of brandy - can you feel the rush? Maybe go to that strip joint (assuming your not married or anything) and check it out? Can you feel it now? Now I'm not saying to become a complete heathen, but allow yourself to break the bonds of JWism that have held you back for years. Do a few "fun" but previously forbidden things and you will soon realize that their is more to life than trying to live by some invisible gods rules and insane old farts in a city most have never seen...

On a serious note, not that it won't be serious when my wife kicks my ass... if and when the shit hits the fan JW's will be lost. Have they really sat down and thought the process through??? It will be beyond anyones ideal situation and god won't be anywhere to be found. As much as they wish for doom, I don't think they have thought past the inital 5 minutes... horrible won't even describe what happens.

Oh, also. I see that walmart sells hdpe#2 5 gallon white buckets that many are saying are foodgrade. Basically what I had in mind was to pick up one of these buckets, and a few 5 gallon painter socks, sterilize both, and then use the 5 gallon walmart bucket as a temp transfer to pour the contents from the fermenter into this, strain and squeeze out the must/mash and then immediately transfer back into the fermenter (with another 5 gallon strainer/sock) to make sure I got everything out, and then rack into the carboy. Do you think that the momentary transfer into a 5 gallon walmart bucket (appearently food grade) will do anything? Its not going to sit in this bucket, just using it to get the pulp out. Thanks again!

Well if the wine I'm making doesn't turn out good, that will be impending doom for me... :) as my wife will kick my ass for using ~30 lbs of grapes from our vineyard, when she will say she could have ate them...

I hate pulling samples out of the fermenter to test the hydrometer and then throwing it away. Is it kosher to clear the must away from the top of the fermentor (making a hole in the middle, cleaning/sterilizing the hydometer and placing the hydrometer in the fermenter???

I know my father indicated (years ago) that the city overseer/CO/DO and some others, while in a meeting, indicated that at one time the "Society" was thinking of making caffeine a DF'ing offense but ruled against it at HQ because they figured they would lose too many people...
