Well my Dad is re-marrying in the 'truth' later in the year and I know Im not invited. To be honest tho, I dont want to go. He isnt interested in me and because of that Ive got no time for him either.

Invatation Snubs - Anybody?
by CaptK inmy mother who has been a jw for over 50 yrs, was sent an invatation to an elder's son high school graduation party.
however it was addressed to just her alone not including her husband who is not a witness but a nice guy just no jw.
the elder's son has yet to speak to my mother at the meetings even a hello or a casual conversation.

Ive never written, I guess I never thought it would be worth it. By the looks of things no-one has gained anything from it. I might have done if i thought it would make a difference.

Attention and re-making yourself
by Markfromcali insomeone recently told me that there's a t-shirt with the message: "some say i have attention deficit disorder, but -- oh look, a chicken!
sometimes we talk about getting busy with life as a way of getting over the jw experience, but in reading the reconditiong thread it occurred to me to really get over it you need to put a decent amount of energy and work into it.
obviously to do that you have to really focus on it and pay attention to what's going on, which wouldn't be as simple as just going about your merry way and living life.

Well I read on here how much 'Big Brother' George Orwell's book '1984' has so many likenesses with the JW organisation. Strangly I read this a few months ago and it never clicked (musta had good 'programming'!!) So now Im reading it again, more thoroughly, to draw comparisons.
I agree with the comments about sub-conscious. At times tho Im so confused as to where to start! But as I say Im in no rush so im just going to soak up whatever I can and see if I change.

Musical Taste Hypocrisy
by PaulJ injust a bug-bear i had when i was a witness that bothered me in the extreme.
i love music but got critsised about the type of music i listened to.
now ive never really been into the big 'bad' two (rap and heavy metal) but i was into alternative british rock music like oasis, blur and radiohead.

My favourite was at a meeting in Wales, when the brother giving the talk said that all music with a beat behind it was wrong, because this could lead to a trance-like state! Classic!
One thing that I lived by was that if something could 'possibly' offend someone else in the truth I wouldnt harp on about it. For example i used to go fishing when i was a kid, something my parents were ok with but some other witnesses wouldnt have liked (sad I know) so I would still do it but I would be discreet about it and not go on about it in the KH. But the thing was with music these same people were activley trying to make a point with their disagreement with our music, actually going out of their way- thats what really annoyed me.

Personnaly I dont think Im ready to launch into a world of research. Ive done so much of that being a JW. Ive been out for 2 years or so, and have only recently decided to look up ex-JW's on the internet... for now im just soaking up the vibe and seeing peoples opinions. Its very interesting, and Im sure at some point in the future I will do some serious research, but for now Im in no rush.

Now ive never really been into the big 'bad' two (Rap and Heavy Metal) but i was into alternative british rock music like Oasis, Blur and Radiohead. Now, in the manchester area i know for a fact the young ones were banned from listening to Oasis, mainly because of the members lifestyle, typical rock and roll, sex and drugs and fighting etc. But the very same elders, elderettes etc who were doing the critisising would happily come home and put on some Queen or Elton John (for example)- both famous for extravagant lifestyles, homosexuality, drug taking, alcoholism etc.... so whats is all that about? In reality it was one rule for them and one rule for the 'youngsters'. Did anyone else come across this kind of thing? (can I just add i like Queen and Elton as well!!!)

Pleased to hear you are all getting into Coldplay. Amazing bad, i have their albums and a live dvd. their new single has is just about to be released over here and its very very good. i wasnt in rotherham until 1998, so i dont remember a jason... my childhood memories of bowes road were visiting the adventure playgound nearby at lunchtimes, and food tokens, then when i got dunked- i was sat drinking a hot tea (in a new suit) when an elder i knew suddenly squeezed my shoulders from behind (in a supportive, 'well done' kinda way) the tea went all over me!!!! thanks for that!!!!! lol
if you were responsible (or partly) for the renovating- who decided on that weird green paint???? or was that a later renovation??
