To all those who frequent this discussion board:
We just wanted you to know that an investigative public radio program named “Reveal,” produced by CIR (Center for Investigative Reporting) and PRX, will present today, Saturday, February 14th, the results of new investigations uncovering hidden stories.
No matter where you live in the world, if you have access to the Internet, you can hear the February 14th scoop at the Reveal website about the secrets Jehovah’s Witnesses “kept under wraps.” Here’s the link: http://www.revealnews.org/article/jehovahs-witnesses-use-1st-amendment-to-hide-child-sex-abuse-claims/
In this week’s story, there will be three different topics covered.
You’ll hear the secrets of what one powerful religious hierarchy was keeping under wraps; troops opening up about their experiences with torture and whether officers are being held accountable; and Reveal’s look at why so many cities in the U.S. are left without high-speed broadband.
The name of the segment about Jehovah’s Witnesses is “Trying to Keep Secrets.”
The “Reveal” radio show gets picked up by more than 200 public radio stations around the country. So whatever the public radio station is in a given region, that's where it will air. NPR doesn't distribute the show, but in most places, the show will air on the same station you would tune in to listen to NPR.
Each station will start broadcasting February 14th Reveal stories whenever they want to program it starting today, Saturday, at 12:01 A.M. Most stations will likely air it over the weekend (when a lot of listeners tend to tune into public radio), or early next week. Some will run it multiple times and some will run it later in the month. It will air in most of the major markets: New York City, Chicago, etc.
The show will be live on the Reveal website starting today, Saturday, so you can listen to it anytime you want to. And you can distribute it to everyone you know by sending out the link to the Reveal site. http://www.revealnews.org/article/jehovahs-witnesses-use-1st-amendment-to-hide-child-sex-abuse-claims/
Also, the transcript of the show will be available on the Reveal site starting today.

We post information that mentions JWs, Nitty-Gritty, no matter what it's about. We chose the name "Andersonsinfo" to post under so people understand that we pass along information to do with JWs, good and bad. You disagreed with the article, and you said why. That's what this discussion board is all about. If you don't like the subjects of the articles we post, write the publishers of the story and express your opinion or use their comment section.
By the way, the person that the article was about didn't say that it was a policy among the JWs to prearrange marriages. She said that it happened to her. She had a right to tell her experience as you have a right to tell yours. Even though you haven't heard of prearranged marriages among JWs, we have. It depends on the culture that many JWs come from.
From our experience on the inside of the Witnesses world headquarters, we know that WT leaders are neutral to this type of thing and try to stay out of it. However, in many congregations, it's not necessarily that way, but you're right in saying that overall, JWs do not practice prearranged marriage although we, of course, don't know what goes on behind closed doors among JWs and what they do in private.
In this case, Lee Marsh, a long-time poster and moderator on this discussion board, did experience prearranged marriage and also abuse at the hands of some JWs and stated that she hears that other JW women have experienced the same things. Many JW elders have never dealt with a case of child sexual abuse either, but that doesn't mean that it doesn't happen to children of JWs by JW molesters.

Out with Consequences: A Journey out of Jehovah's Witnesses
Paperback – February 1, 2015
by Debbie L McDaniel (Author)
Out with Consequences, Debbie L. McDaniel, a disfellowshipped Jehovah's Witness, details a childhood of sexual abuse suffered at the hands of an elder whom the church refuses to punish. As a child McDaniel learned how deep cultures of shame, denial, and hypocrisy can be when she is made to suffer a years-long cycle of sexual abuse at the hands of a church elder. When simultaneously speaking out and admitting her homosexuality gets her disfellowshipped, McDaniel is shunned by not only the congregation, but also her family; all while her abuser remains in good standing with the church. The church warns her and other victims to keep quiet. And going to the authorities does little to help; although her abuser is arrested for his crimes, he is just as quickly released. Despite it all, she survives the fallout to tell her story. In a time when churches' stances on sexual abuse and homosexuality are constantly making headlines, Out with Consequences offers a must-read perspective. Written with the strength of voice of someone who has seen it all, McDaniel's story is sure to teach other survivors that if she can survive, they can too.

Church threatens to excommunicate any member caught voting in upcoming elections
Consequences of disobedience by any member includes excommunication from the church.Published: 31.01.2015 by Oge Okonkwo
This also includes voting or contesting for any official post in the elections.
According to PM News, the church claims that participating in an election was satanic and contrary to God’s commandment.
It was also gathered by the newspaper that members of Jehovah’s Witness were given stern warnings not to obtain voter’s cards and that they should not vote during the elections.
Reports say the consequences of disobedience by any member includes excommunication from the church.
PM News say the directive was indeed confirmed by members of the church who claimed the order was right 'because they are still waiting for the kingdom of God that is yet to be established on earth'.
A Jehovah’s Witness pastor, James Uduok, reportedly agreed with the directive, stating that every member of Jehovah’s Witness knows that participating in election is satanic and contrary to the will of God.
The pastor also argued that the teaching of the Witness was strongly embedded in the Bible and all members must adhere strictly to the teaching or leave the congregation.
Other members had reportedly defended the decision not to vote by quoting Mathew 6: 9 and Mathew 4: 8.
It was learnt that members of Jehovah’s Witness claim that this world belongs to Satan and insist that God’s kingdom has not yet come.
Seeking the opinion of pastor who are not Jehovah's Witnesses, PM News reports that their responses were contrary to the teaching of the Witnesses.
The interviewed pastors all said Jehovah's Witnesses were misinterpreting the Bible, warning against false preachings.
Reports say members of Jehovah’s Witness have been banned from participating in the upcoming elections.

TOWN OF NEWBURGH – Officials in the Town of Newburgh are planning to change the zoning definitions for motels and hotels in reaction to the nonprofit Watchtower Tract and Bible Society’s purchase of a hotel on Route 300 and its interest in a hotel off Route 17K.
In March 2014, Watchtower finalized its purchase of the Hampton Inn. The organization, whose members are Jehovah’s Witnesses, bought the facility to house volunteers working short-term on the construction of its world headquarters in Warwick.
Watchtower, which did not respond to a request for comment, also said months ago it planned to buy the now-closed Hilton Garden Inn next to Orange County Choppers, according to Newburgh Supervisor Gil Piaquadio.
Under the proposed changes, the town would add to the definition of hotels and motels language specifying that they be open only to the public on a fee basis for transient stays of 30 days or less.
“It’s tough to run a town when you’re taking prime real estate off the tax rolls,” Supervisor Gil Piaquadio said.
Hundreds of volunteers have been working on the construction of Watchtower’s new headquarters, which was undertaken after the organization decided to relocate from Brooklyn to be closer to a farm and printing plant in Shawangunk.
Construction began in July 2013, and Watchtower is hoping to complete the project by late 2016. Eight major structures are planned on 41 of the 253 acres at the Warwick property.
Watchtower’s purchase price for the Hampton Inn was not disclosed, but county records listed the 5-acre hotel property’s market value at $6,438,800 for 2014.
Last year, the property was billed nearly $182,400 in school taxes, $24,461.75 in county taxes and $21,632.31 in town taxes.
“To run this town, you do need income,” Piaquadio said. “You can’t just keep raising taxes.”
The Hilton’s title was once held by the Orange County Industrial Development Agency under a payment-in-lieu-of-taxes agreement with Greenwood Gardens LLC, the property’s owner. But the IDA returned title to Greenwood last month.
The proposed zoning change is being reviewed by the county, Piaquadio said. Its approval by the town will not affect existing hotel and motel properties, he said.
“From this point forward it’s got to be open to the public with a fee charge,” Piaquadio said.

Samaritan At the Well: Welcome.
Thank you so much for posting your especially interesting story. Reading it made both Joe and I happy to know that my "sincere" eyes and factual statements helped cause you and 7Starz to crack the door to freedom from the mind-manipulation of the Watchtower organization. In the majority of cases, and as you found out, it's a slow and sometimes painful process to open that door wider and wider and it can take years. It did so in my case. But when that door is fully open, what an exhilarating feeling to breathe the fresh air of real truth, not the fantasy that entraps millions of Witnesses.
For what it's worth, the program I appeared on, which you saw that Thanksgiving eve, was NBC Nightly News, broadcast in 2007. That five minute segment was about Watchtower's secret out-of-court settlement with 16 victims in nine lawsuits for $12.5 million. Happy to say, that announcement led to many more victims filing lawsuits against the Watchtower, especially the successful Conti lawsuit.
Joe and I were not really surprised at the elder's reaction when you told him about the program. When have the Witnesses wanted the public to know about the misdeeds and problems within "Jehovah's organization"? That elder could only hope nobody was watching NBC Nightly News the eve before Thanksgiving so the secrets would remain hidden.
Sad isn't it, how, as a body, JWs want negative facts about them to be hidden from the public even though that knowledge could help prevent children inside and outside of the organization from becoming victims of JW pedophiles. Apparently, kids don't matter, only the Watchtower matters.
Life outside a cult can be challenging in the beginning of the journey, but it gets easier and easier as time flies by. The only sorrow we have is that we didn’t leave the religion earlier.
We think you will feel the same way.

Forced marriage is one of the last taboos to break. A new law could make it a crime. So why do those who champion prevention oppose it?

Two weeks after her 18th birthday, Lee Marsh was sitting at the kitchen table one Sunday, reading the Bible, when her mother came in and announced that Marsh would marry a 20-year-old member of their Jehovah’s Witness congregation in Montreal. The girl was stunned; she had met her husband-to-be just once. Five weeks later, it was done.
