I agree have samples or examples of your own items or make "free" for say a friend for a family heirloom or such and keep copies of those on hand as samples. Plus gives you an idea of how many hours!! it can take.
I have done stuff for my own family (school musicals, family trips, etc) so I have a good library to demo from.
These are just things to think about that hurt or helped my daughters project, you may or may not of thought of them, He used our music choices, we supplied, but they were not returned, so we lost some cd's that he could not locate later... We got all of our paper photos returned... but he did not use the ones she had labled. and some of the ones he used were of people he thought "looked" like me for example and were actually my Aunt ( We look similar in appearance). So in order to please the customer make sure for yourself and your own safety , Keep track of anything the customer provides and have a way of letting the customer clearly letting you know what they want and what they expect as a final result.
A good "inventory" system for what the customer submits is a must. I will have a "check-in" form to make sure that every little thing is documented. Plus a filing system to safeguard and keep it straight.
Hey, are you able to transfer my old Song camcorder tapes to DVD? If so, what do you charge and where are you? Also, if I accidently taped over one of these tapes, can you "undo" it and restore the original images and sound?
I'm not familiar with Song. Do you mean Sony? What tape format is it? I can do VHS and 8mm (also known as MP120). If you are in Europe, we may be S.O.L., since you guys have a different video format (PAL) than we do (NTSC) And, I'm sorry to say, once you record over something, it is gone for good. PM me with any questions you have about pricing. I am in the US.Do you or anyone reading this know how to transfer 35mm slides to disc?
There are a couple of ways. One involves using a scanner with a special template to hold the slide. Another involves using a special image transfer box that can take the projector image and mirror it to your digital camera or cam-corderIf he's got a bunch, do a few and get paid for a few, to be sure you both are satisifed with the quality and the price (make sure he can pay).
Excellent point! I was thinking the same thing. It will also help to see if his player is compatible with the media, before I eat a lot of time and energy. Plus, money trickling in a little at a time is better than waiting weeks before the payday.PS - what kind of input to the 'puter is needed to transfer VHS videos?
Can't give away trade secrets, but you need a good external adapter for the A/D conversion, and a firewire port to the PC for best speed. Everything else depends on the video editing software and the processing power and hard drive space needed for these humongo files.. Thanks for all the helpful comments! -

Just as the year was coming to a close, I decided to start a business using my computer for something more than playing video games.
I just got a response from one of my flyers! Yes, I am excited now! And scared too! I am marketing a service, which can be harder to please people with than a product!
Anyway, I'm going to be transferring home video tapes (weddings, parties, kids, etc) onto DVD. I hope I'm not getting in over my head! (I have a day job too, but who needs sleep, anyway?)
I hope this call pans out, he has a lot of tapes he wants done!

Christmas Crackers
by Englishman inde rigeur in the uk, very unusual in the us.. is that right?.
no crackers with christmas pudding?.

Not during Christmas, but at New Years, watch out.
I am fortunate enough to live in a municipality where fireworks are allowed in city limits during Indepedence Day and New Years. The place sounds like Iraq on a Saturday night.
Favorite line of dialogue about a Christmas crackers
"Marriage is a lot like a Christmas Cracker: One disappointing "bang" and then it's pretty much downhill from there."-Ebenezer Blackadder, from "A Blackadder Christmas Carol"

Help me find Hell picture, please.
by sleepy inhi , i'm looking for a picture that was in the societies books in the 70's or early eighties of a hell scene.
wasn't a witness picture , i believe it was from some eastern religion.
it featured people being tourtured in various ways in hell.

I know the picture! I don't have the book with me, but it was called "Is This Life All There Is?" It had a Japanese version of hell, with people on skewers, being made to walk tightropes over burning flames, etc. Very vivid!
I remember the title, because my Mom thought of Peggy Lee's old standard, "Is That All There Is?" when she heard the book being announced, and it tickled her just a little (my Mom always had a weird sense of humor, anyway).

Whenever I see that weird glint in Bush's eyes, I think of this scene from the Dead Zone (the David Cronenberg movie from the '80s)
Greg Stillson: Put your hand on the scanning screen, and you'll go down in history with me!
Five Star General: As what? The world's greatest mass murderers?
Greg Stillson: You cowardly bastard! You're not the voice of the people, I am the voice of the people! The people speak through me, not you!Greg Stillson: The missiles are flying. Hallelujah, Hallelujah!

I live in a community where, right now, because a nativity scene was not allowed in an elementary school play, a $10 million dollar bond for a badly needed elementary school, plus improvements and repairs for existing buildings, was voted down; and now, a local whack job has decided to sue the school district because her feelngs as a "Christian" were outraged by deletion of the nativity scene.
I am living in a country where the loons are taking over the asylum. Unfortunately, the loonies from other religions are taking over their own countries as well. Soon, we'll be back to the dark old days of 11th and 12th centuries, except instead of rocks and swords, we'll have nukes and bio-terror.

Naming your children Biblical names
by JustTickledPink inthe thread about jael got me to thinking about all the biblical names i heard from witness children.. jael, barak, elisha, elijah, noah, matthew,.
anyone else remember new babies coming into the world and being given "biblical" names?
i thought it was hilarious when there was baby noah.

One of my kids is name after an uber-cool Scottish actor, and my other son has a name very similar to a character from a series of military/espionage thrillers.
No Bible names, I think it's just a form of self-righteousness thrust upon your kids. Who needs to be saddled with a 4000 year old middle eastern mouthful like Jehoash bar-Jeroboam, just because you mom and dad wanted to impress the congo with how (self) righteous they were?
On the other hand, I've always thought Linus was a cool name....
