The "WOW!!" moment...Theocratic Ministry School was a sham!

i just remembered something from long ago..... i moved to california in 1974 after i had been in "the truth" for 11 years, having full-time pioneered and also having served time in federal prison over the so-called christian neutrality issue.. i felt completely confident that my bible education was the best on planet earth.

i had honed my skills by door to door preaching, discussion, arguments and attendance at the theocratic ministry school.. i began working as an artist in a huge company that manufactured all kinds of art, sculpture and wall hanging.

the head of the artists was a wonderful young man, skilled artist and devout christian who took me under his wing.

A lot of the old timers could "see things coming" the rest of us couldn't. They should have made THOSE folks the anointed :)....Joe Tosti on the gb, gad what a thought....

Let me clear something up, for Godrulz's. I am a lousy speller and rely on spell check to correct my spelling. At the same time, for reasons I shall only say are due to health, I make a lot of typos. If a word is close to what I am writing spell check doesn't catch the difference. I know it's Canon and not cannon. Also realize SPELLING is VERY important when attempting to make a point. Funny thing is I was a champion speller up through the 6th grade, went down hill from there.

Now, that's enough OFF TOPIC comments. Hope that helps you out there Godrulz's, glad you caught that one typo, keeps me on my toes you know....

Those were the days, eh?.....I suspect the TMS of today could not hold a candle to the one of years gone by. One reason a jw will cut and run when confronted by real Bible knowledge. At least we learned something in days gone by.

Positive topic Terry....great comments made by all. On an aside Joe Tosti told me two years before it became a df offense that any one using tobacco would be df'd Joe was an odd ball, but knew how to grow a garden....

Want to study and learn about the Bible? READ AND STUDY EVERYTHING YOU CAN GET YOUR HANDS ON, history, philosophy, history of the Bible Cannon, how the Bible was composed in written form, history of Bible translations, church history. Best place to start, as Terry mentioned, is who wrote the Bible. Read, read, read the most important thing when doing so is read both pro and con. Also, study evolution, you will be surprised.

Didn't know that TD. One should read the Bible Student writings. Voluminous they are, and a hard read in their 19th century style.

Perhaps Maria was much more involved in the "Pastors" writing, eh? Yes Russell was foxy, foxy enough to get rid of Maria. As you suggest he did not want to SHARE the limelight. Something Ellen White's husband didn't care about. He stayed by her side to the end.

Perhaps it was poetic justice Rutherford "grabbed" the International Bible Student Association after Russell's death.

Ellen G. White was a prolific writer, as was Charles Russell. They were powerhouses in their day, both coming out of the Miller Adventist movement. I suppose my imputes is the difference between the two. My OP has to do with Ellen and Maria. It seems you cannot separate Maria, who contributed MUCH more to Charle's writings and development of Bible Students than she is given credit.

Ellen White had visions and the Bible. Maria stuck to her own brand of Bible interpretation. I wanted to compare the two, but seems you can't without bringing Charles into the mix as well. Especially since he kicked Maria to the curb, and there is so little information about her.

CHAPTER 2

What Did Moses Write?

"We are now to study the first five books of the Bible, known as the Pentateuch...Pentateuch is not in the Bible; it is a Greek word signifying...the Five -fold Work..."

"The Jews in the time of our Lord always considered these five books as one connected work...[ called ] "Torah," or The Law, "The Law of Moses," sometimes "The Five-fifths of the Law."...originally one book...not easy to determine at what time its division into five parts took place"

"Later criticism is also inclined to add ...the Book of Joshua...to say that the first six books...were put in their present form by the same hand...it will be more convenient to begin with the traditional division..."

Now Mr. Gladden is prepared to begin his duologue of "Who Wrote The Bible" after establishing that, Gladden concludes with our Bible Cannon. None of what Gladden writes is boring, it is objective and educational, to the point even an atheist will find it of interest.
