i've lurked here for some time now, and posted a few times but wasn't going to do this until a couple other sweet members here suggested i do - so here it goes.
to tell my story, i have to go back to the beginning.. when i was 3yrs old, i had a very loving older brother, craig, who was 5yrs old.
while we were out playing on a montreal street one day, a streetcleaner with a hungover driver hooked my brother, dragged him several feet, and ran over him, in front of me.
You, my friend, are a woman or wisdom, spirit, and strength! I am grateful that you have shared your story and honored to associate with you on the board. Raising a glass of my favorite beverage ..... "Here's to the future"!

Welcome to the board. I am happy to know that your family is supportive. It is sad to me that they are very much the exception in this organization.

someone recently posted a link to the mp3 song: "joanie, the jehovah witness stripper.".
while trying to find out who performs that song, look what i found: the story of "amethyst the (former) jehovah witness stripper".
i found that the song "joanie the jehovah's witness stripper" was by an artist named "paul thorn", his website is http://www.paulthorn.com/.
OOPS .... went back and re-read your post .... I see you have the info already. If anyone reading here hasn't heard the song ... you really ought to ... it is a hoot!

My husband has the Joanie the Jehovahs Witness stripper MP3 and he knows the name of the artist ... I will have him post the info and if you would like for him to email you the mp3 I am sure he would be glad to.

should we fear death?.
how do you feel about dying?.
after leaving the witnesses i find i am ever more aware of my own mortality.before i could comfort myself with the idea that i could be ressurected.i think the realisation that death will completly end my life , and that there was nothing afterward , was one of the most difficult things to come to terms with.. generally i don't think about it , but when some happens and i do , the idea , quite frankly scares the hell out of me.. but does death really bring the end to us?.
I can say that I love my life and will hang on to it with all of my might, but I do not have the fear of death that I used to.
My young heart never fully bought into the WT philosophies, so I was always fearing that the coming “new system” meant death for me anyway. Upon separation from the Borg … I realized that death would be a kinder fate than eternal life with that philosophy.
I don’t know any more about death than I ever have, but I feel pretty sure that my sprit has been around for a long time … and while my body may expire …. I believe my spirit will continue to be around. I don’t know why I believe this, I have no proof … it is just a quiet internal understanding that brings me peace.

hi everyone, i too have been lurking for a few weeks and thought it was time i made myself known.
i am not a jw but i am married to a man who is from a multi-generational family of jw's (although he has not been to meetings since he was old enough to object).
although i have never had any direct involvement with the organisation itself, i find my life is constantly infulenced by these people who judge, shun and avoid my husband and i (i guess they don't want to mix with "worldy people" such as us).
Judith,
Thanks for sharing, and welcome! Your family group sounds very much like mine. I am also from a multi-generational JW family and I was the one to walk away.
As for your query about questioning the existance of God upon exiting the faith .... My experience was a little different. For as long as I was associated with JW's I questioned the existance of God .. because so may of their teachings were illogical. It wasn't until after my exodus that I became conviced that there is some power greater than myself that is taking good and gentle care of me and mine. I am NOT religious ... and I would not call myself Christian ... but I do now believe in the existance of a Supreme Being/Universal Force/Higher Power/God.

the mens toilets were generally ok, never got to see the sisters.......but the sisters had to queue!!!
!i mean, really long lines!.
isp
They used to tape paper over the mirrors in the women’s' restrooms at our conventions to encourage the sisters to move faster. I didn't work ... the sisters would just rip a corner of the paper and try to fix their hair/makeup in the reflection of a small torn corner taking 2x as long as it would have taken if the paper wasn't there in the first place .
Geeze .... talk about a controlling group of bastards ....
