Christmas Decorations at the Kingdom hall

i can't remember if i've told this story before .... but back in the day, in irlam congregation (northwest england, uk, cheshire #1 circuit i think) we used to rent a kingdom hall for many years before we eventually built our own.. preston hall.

ah, the memories .... it was primarily used as a community hall for old folks, but we had it friday night and sunday morning.. there was a loft and fold-out ladder and we used to store the chairs up their.

every meeting, there would be an assembly line of all the "lads" to pass the chairs down and set them up, then collect them up and pass them back up at the end of the meeting.

A story I heard was that there was congregation in England that put up Christmas decorations because they had “turned apostate” and the circuit overseer had to go in bust it up and set them straight. Maybe that was a distorted Chinese-whisper version of this case, or another congregation somewhere else.

What I’ve discovered over the years, though, from reading stories of others’ experiences, is that my initial sceptical reaction of “Jehovah’s Witnesses would never do that” whenever I hear about some whacky going’s on, doesn’t take fully into account just how many congregations and individual JWs there are across the world and the scope for outlier unusual and whacky behaviour across the “whole association of brothers”.

I don’t know if it’s codified as such but I definitely think there is an assumption that “discipline” means being moved one rung down the ladder the higher up your position in the organisation. So an elder might get removed as an elder, whereas an ordinary publishers would have been disfellowshipped for the same offence, and a circuit overseer might be demoted to an elder rather than being stripped of being an elder altogether. If so, what that means for AMIII I’m not sure. Being stripped as an elder is a much bigger deal than not being allowed to pioneer. Who really cares about that? Only sisters who have it as the only badge of honour. I don’t know if GB members do typical elder duties in local congregations. Do they have the time to attend the meetings of a local body? If not, AMIII might now have the time, if he’s still in a position to attend. Would he want to? Who knows. Basically, we don’t know anything! Ha! Will we ever find out? Amazing how they’ve kept a lid on whatever happened.

The events of the last couple of weeks have been a complete defeat for Lloyd Evans don’t let him fool anyone otherwise. Over a year ago he reckoned he was well within his rights to use patron money to cheat on his wife and visit prostitutes every couple of months and he said so in those terms on his livestream and in his statements. He invited his audience to judge for themselves. The verdict came back and it was a resounding rejection by the majority of his viewers and patron supporters. For most of the following year LE valiantly tried to hold that line in the face of everyone credible leaving him, Andrew Gold, Dr Das, over half his patrons, and more. He kept ploughing that same rotten line regardless.

Last week, in a complete volte face LE dropped all his self justifications because he finally realised nobody was ever going to buy it. Instead he concluded he had no option but to hide behind the welfare his wife and family (and Tibor) and vague references to “defamation” instead of telling his audience what he really thinks about his right to sex. Whatever way he paints it, that is a tacit admission that his position is indefensible and he can only attract new supporters by obscuring his real position. Now all he can do is hope his new supporters don’t search “Lloyd Evans defamation” in any search engine because his recent patron boost is built on lies and obfuscation and he knows it.

If anyone still supports him after watching the livestream they need their head examined. Everything else like these letters are interesting - and shocking, but superfluous. We know they’re real because Kim is in a position to know and says they are real. Others are welcome to their own opinion, it doesn’t make any difference in view of his own video “confession”.

I suspect the vast majority of his new patrons have not seen his livestream. I know there are a handful of whacky individuals who defend him in full knowledge of livestream (absurdly gleefully, it seems) but they are surely a minority.

That’s probably why LE was very vague about the so-called “defamation” in his latest videos - because he doesn’t want to altert new people to his livestream video. He might have secured a partial recovery in patrons, but it’s based on a lie that could explode under him at any time and he knows it. That’s why he so careful to be vague.

Could I suggest, to those who are dejected and wish to make a difference - and I am sorry that I can’t be any help here - that the best and most effective response to his recent YouTube begging videos would be a succinct, targeted YouTube video specifically in response to his begging videos. Because most people find him on YouTube it stands to reason that’s where most of his patrons go on to find out about him as well. They are not reading forums or websites. Many people get most of their information from YouTube videos.

An effective video shouldn’t be much longer than 20 minutes or so, focussing heavily on the major points from his livestream, his hateful open letter to Kim, a visual showing that more than half his patrons resigned in disgust, clips from former supporters explaining why they left, a mash up of clips from all the YouTubers he’s attacked and defamed over the years, clips from Dr Das and Andrew Gold and their encounter with this ‘narcissistic psychopath’, his begging contrasted with his criticism of Watchtower begging, him lying about his company having no money, the CofC copyright fiasco, doxing people on Facebook, and whatever else I’ve missed.

It would be a lot of work, but some of it has already been done in older videos. It needs to be updated and comprehensive, yet succinct as possible. If somebody made such a video, or a small team together, then I’m sure most people here would get behind the video, like it, share it, promote it on YouTube so that at least some of his new patrons will know the real story. It’s just a suggestion, but I think it would be a better use of time than lengthy posts on forums and websites, because a short video with all the main facts would have far greater reach to his target audience than all the posts and web pages combined.

Unfortunately, I suspect he can, because it’s new people he’s sucking in. He’ll probably pull a stunt like this every few months each time his support dips. When the dust settles, however, he’s still 300 patrons down from his livestream, and nobody credible will work with him. And now he’s still on the hook to produce his pointless videos. The euphoria in his bedsit will quickly subside.

Those people who do agree to interviews with him, mainly smaller vendors, to promote their own books or channels or whatever, bear some responsibility for keeping him going. They are free to do what they like of course, that’s their choice. I am also free to have complete disdain for their choice and nothing to do with their products. They might get a short term boost but they harm their own credibility.

What is the ‘woke’ position on sex exploitation in Thailand anyway? How does that fit?

I’m still amazed people were taken in by his begging video. Everything in his statement is so manipulative and needs translating into plain language.

Our landlord at Rama Crow has been very, very understanding and I'm hoping that he won't cause us any problems with demanding too much money

In other words LE wants to back out of a contract and expects not to be asked to pay what has committed in full. If not, he will again claim some sort of unfairness just because he is not being given special treatment.
