Many of those who malign Antonio Gramsci have never read any Gramsci but are following a popularised and inaccurate caricature offered by a few conservative authors who use bits and pieces from here and there. If you have only heard about Gramsci from those who use him as a kind of villain it’s no basis. It would be like learning about Darwin’s theory of natural selection from the blue Creation book. You only have the vaguest idea what it’s actually about and much is crucially distorted. I have read some the prison notebooks and it’s plainly not for nothing that Gramsci is held as an important thinker. In terms of Marxism where he fits in is that he showed that cultural superstructure impacts the material base, which some Marxists disputed. Whether you agree with programmatic Marxism or not, he made a good case for how the world actually works, which is useful to know whichever political perspective you have.

As I recall Goldberg said something really stupid like ‘Jews can’t experience racism because they are white’. It’s hard to know how an adult person can have that view or what she thought the Holocaust was all about.
On the other hand the observation that people with African ancestry are visually more easily identified in everyday life than Jews seems like a perfectly reasonable comment to me.

It’s obviously stupid to say Jews don’t experience racism given the history of the last century.
But on the the specific point about everyday experience, I wonder, isn’t it simply true to say that often you can’t tell whether someone is Jewish just by looking at them, whereas invariably you can tell if someone has African heritage just by looking at them? Is that observation 1) false or 2) true, but you’re not allowed to say it? I am genuinely curious what others think because I find this confusing.

Worse in the UK because the sovereign is the person in whose name crimes are prosecuted in the courts, so by definition the king can’t be convicted of a crime (according to some legal experts, you always get different opinions) because he would be prosecuting himself.
It’s not theoretical either because it’s a crime in the UK to sell seats in the House of Lords and there are some who claim they have good evidence (signed letters) of Prince Charles offering ennoblement in return for cash donations. On the other hand the chances of him ever being held to account in any way are close to zero barring some sort of revolution, because the establishment looks after their own, especially the apex, because their own positions are secured in relation to the system as a whole.

Absolutely - he obviously hates the ‘work’ that he does. He detests having to watch those stupid Watchtower videos and he can’t stand having to write about them and present it as if he cares about it. But he’s completely trapped. On one level of course he will have been delighted about duping all the extra patrons into sending him their money, but at the same time his heart must have sank as he realised that it means he has to keep producing these utterly vacuous videos. He would much rather be doing something - anything - else. He would have been very happy to wind down his channel to the bare minimum while still raking in Patreon money from his remaining supporters for as long as they are stupid enough to keep sending money to him. With the unexpected success of his recruitment drive, now he’s got to at least pretend to put renewed effort into his YouTube channel. The prospect of being stuck doing this for the foreseeable future must fill him with absolute dread. He obviously despises his own followers now too because nobody with their wits about them has hung around. He has cornered the market in ignorant and/or unstable individuals, and now he has to keep regular Zoom calls and WhatsApp message with the ‘cream’ of that crop. The vast majority of his followers at this point must either be oblivious to the facts, and his own confession livestream, or they share his nihilistic and cynical outlook, or they have some self interested reason for hanging around, such as his employees, or people hoping to plug a book or their own YouTube channel.
