This is a very true analysis. The Watchtower is getting out of books because there is no profit in them any more since they can no longer charge for them. This has much more to do with their switch to digital than general trends of media consumption. As you say physical books remain popular. They're just not so popular with the WT because they can't charge for them.

Watchtower Bible & Tract Society: Pretending to Be Alive?
by David_Jay inaccording to market analysis, the e-book market has taken a dip in 2015. because companies that publish e-books can (and do) monitor the use of the e-books materials they release, not only their sales but the individual e-book’s use gets tracked.
companies like amazon and kobo as well as nielsen book research in the uk all report that while the format remains popular, sales have dipped more than a quarter last year in some places like britain, and that hard copies of books still are preferred.. amazon (u.s.a.) sales figures give an example of how things are working on the world scene.
for instance non-fiction hard copy printed books sales (including religion) made up a healthy 42% of their purchased books in 2015. in the same category, however, e-books made up only 6% of the sales.. kobo monitored its e-book sales and found that 60% of the electronic versions never even got opened.

Not sure what lucrative manoeuvre is involved, but I like the sound of preserving images for prosperity. ;-)

Life of Brian
by berrygerry ini was a younger dub at the time of this release, and stopped watching this movie near its beginning, when john cleese was stoned with the huge rock for saying jehovah.. this was despite having been (and continuing to be) a major john cleese (and monty python) fan.. any fans of this film?.

I thought it said Incontinentia Bucket. Not Buttocks. Have always wondered about that. Still not the best joke.

"Confidentiality" of Elders!
by stuckinarut2 insomething struck me the other day.. elders are told to maintain confidentiality with regard to the details of judicial cases or congregation "discipline" in an attempt to dignify individuals etc.. this is even the case for known child abusers!.
yet, if they suspect someone of being an "apostate", for instance being a member on this forum, they will spread such information far and wide, through the witness "grape vine" to congregations miles away (or even in other countries).
so, does that mean they place more importance on "apostasy" rather than child abuse?.

Pertinent here is the counsel: “Do not reveal the confidential talk of another.” (Proverbs 25:9) Experience suggests that this may be one of the most widely violated requirements among elders.
Bingo! I know a brother who pulls out that quote whenever personal issues and elders are mentioned. Can't trust the elders - it says so in the Watchtower!

LadyLee takes over. Then it's Ninja, then it's me.
If we're all on the same bus at the same time it goes to the Governing Body. If they're all dead and/or there is a nuclear winter it goes to Cedars as a last resort.
Glad to clarify.

I'd love to find it. But the brother who quotes it is busy shunning me! And I don't know where it is.

first of all i am glad to see that many of you have found your way to this great forum, facilitated by simon.

Well I respect you trying to put things right DS!
Whoever the owner is I can only imagine he has some sort of grievance against the members. Or he just thinks they were a bloody nuisance. You don't treat people like that if you regard them well do you? At least I'd like to think so.

"I have to respect that."
Why? I wouldn't respect it. "Respect" it in the sense that there's nothing you can do to stop it I suppose. Not respect it in the sense that it's in any way a reasonable way to treat people.
Sure members ought to be grateful to owners of forums for creating and running them. But forum owners should also be grateful to ordinary members for the content they provide. The owners may have lost interest in the forum now. But presumably when it began they were interested. And they relied on ordinary members to get it off the ground. What gratitude have they shown for that initial support? Closing the forum without warning may technically be the prerogative of the owners, but it also shows disrespect or contempt. So right back at them.

"Please Jehovah bless this your precious real estate. May its value ever increase. May we continue to pay the debts incurred long after their time, just as we have been told they have been forgiven. Lead us not to neglect our donations. Help us shun those who would inherit of our relations. We are truly storing treasures in heaven. For JW.org is the glory, for ever and ever. In Jesus name, amen."
"Amen."
