How many times a day do U think about being ExJW?
by LyinEyes ini thought about this tonite, i was out on the town with my husband, trying to forget about the week i had of being sick.
trying to not think about my 3 kids problems they all have,,,,,,,,like who gets to do what this weekend and who's turn it is to call the radio.

I think about it quite often now as my daughters birthday is coming up and I am already xmas shopping. I get paranoid at the shops when my trolley is filled with presents or if I wander down the aisle with the birthday card etc. I feel that I ought to be looking over my shoulder and that I will have some explaining to do if I happen to bump into any of them.
I also feel regret over the wasted years, although I wasn't in as long as you were. Although I must admit that the regret is only a tinge compared to the freedom I experience in having choices over the music I am able to enjoy, places I can go, clothes I can wear, tv programmes I can watch etc, etc.
So yes I probably still think about being (ex)jw most days, several times, but do you know what I really enjoy now? I really love having a laugh over the stupid things we did when we were in. We can sort of take the pee out of ourselves for being so naive and stupid. I cringe at how gullible I was and how I took everything I heard from the platform so seriously. I suppose being able to laugh at ourselves now has in someways replaced the anger and bitterness that we once felt.
But being a jw is not normal, it is a totally ABnormal lifestyle and I don't know if the experience of spending a considerable amount of ones life like that will ever depart from us?

As a child, I had recurring nightmares about living forever in heaven. I would cry and wonder what I was going to do all that time. ( I must have picked something up at sunday school) ? !
When I first met the witnesses, I must admit that their idea of NOT going to heaven really thrilled me.........That was, of course, before I had the oppertunity of learning just WHO I would be living forever on earth with!.........Soon changed my mind about that too!
Death and permanent nothingness is the option I'll stick with thank-you.

What Was The 1st Thing That Made You Question?
by minimus inas a youngster raised in the "truth", i had my questions.
but anytime you ask a question that is unanswerable, you are told to just wait on jehovah.
as time passes, i believe that we store up a number of unanswerable questions that forces one to eventually think about everything.

When I observed the way that a certain sister was treated by her husband. He physically and mentaly abused her and her children, the elders knew and gave her shit advice, like stay with him and be a better wife, blah blah blah.
Final straw came when he hit her youngest child and threatened to murder her. She left him and went to a battered wives refuge and spent months living in just one filthy room with all of her kids.
I was disgusted with the lack of support for her and her family.
She no longer attends the meetings and I am the only person that bothers with her now.

Are You Embarrassed To Admit You Were A Witness?
by minimus inif the subject of religion or even jehovah's witnesses ringing your doorbell has come up, do you shy away from talking about ever being a witness?
some have indicated that they felt stupid for ever believing in the watchtower.
others have said they have a responsibility to help others not get involved in this "cult".

I do actually feel rather embarrassed that I am a jw and would rather not confess openly at this point in time. Maby that will change with time.

Those are good. They reminded me of a catholic lady that I called on one time, out on field service. She swore blind that the virgin mary had appeared to her in a cloud one day. She grabbed a camera and took a photo, got it developed and guess what ?.......she got a photo back of a cloud!

halloween, the straw breaker
by wednesday inmy husband and i have just had a big fight about, of all things, halloween.
our dgt.

Sorry about your fight.
I think I know what you mean about this strange middle world. It makes me feel a bit awkward. All this halloween, bondfire night, poppy day, harvest festival and the BIGGY christmas!
I feel unsure to as what to do, as it all seems to be thrust upon me, without me having thought it through.
However, this evening I thought I'd just go with the flow and gave the kids sweets as they knocked on my door. This is my first 'pagan involvement'!
I felt a mixture of rebelliousness, naughtiness and also a sense of taking a step toward normality.
