Why do we expexct Jehovah to be nice to people?
by Gill inwho said god had to be nice to anyone?
i was just reading gumby's thread on 'a big old lie' he'd found in the bible.. as far as i got reading, folks were discussing jehovah killing everyone most of the time and i suppose threatening to do again in the future, according to the wtbts.
but why do we expect god to be nice to people?

jehovah's organization and dual fulfillment prophecy
by jaredg inmy dad disaggress and backs it up by saying that god has always had an organization or his righteous people on earth.
it used to be isreal but when jesus came he changed that and established a new convenant/congregation.
he then goes on about matt.

that's easy...
just ask him who was the FDS in 1800. or in 700 AD. and if he really comes up with some strange group, ask him, why aren't they the FDS anymore.
btw: it's a parable, not a prophecy. and the parable also states, that the slave could be found faithful or not. so in case someone somewhen was the FDS, he might not be anymore. -

if god would exist, and the bible would be true, i wouldn't expect him to be nice. satan is much nicer, at least he says the truth.
in the garden of eden god tells adam to not eat from the tree of knowledge, as he would die the same day. satan says, no you are not going to die, but you'll be just like god. he eats, he does not die the same day. but god is afraid that he could also eat fruit of the tree of life and be like him (actually: them), so he quickly bans him from eden...
then he wrote a book to discredit satan and tell lies about him, but he forgot to edit that little story out before the book hit the stores. -

hm, deputy dog has a strange sense of justice...
about jesus being not that kind... he got angry, just because his disciples couldn't heal a posessed person. he got angry at the catering service at temple. he got angry at peter, just because he didn't want him to die. heck, he even got angry at a fig tree, because it didn't have fruit out of season.
he spoke in parables, so the people wouldn't understand and believe and perhaps being saved. he condemned whole cities to a fate worse than sodom and gomorrah. he accused the jews of being children of the prophets's murderers. he said, those who have should be given more, and from those who have not, everything should be taken away.
he called a greek lady a dog. he told a man who just lost his father to let the dead burry the dead. and he just loved to talk about eternal punishment and fire... -

Even stranger than drunken Noah - why did angels want sex with women?
by eyeslice inthis is a sort of parallel thread to the drunken noah thread.
the genesis account of angels 'materialising' and having sex with women always worried me as a witness.
in all animals, man included, the sex drive is hormonal.

in the early christian apocryphal scripture "the treasure cave" (and probably even earlier jewish traditions) the author tries to explain, that the nephilim were not the sons of the angels, because it's impossible for an angel to have sex. rather than that, cain's offspring mixed with seth's children, leading to a giant race.
what i find interesting about seth is, that the egyptian quasi-pendant to satan was seth (horus' brother, the god of sex and power - or as we say today "sex, drugs and rock'n'roll") while the anti-egyptian israelites had seth as their (good) forefather. i wonder if horus has some connection to cain then. -

Is religion the real reason for many wars?
by Pole ina lot of posters on this board have expressed the opinion that religion is the reason for many wars.
some have even implied that if religion was "banned" the number of wars would be reduced.

which extremes? i feel, organized religion is just a tool for power. and after all, spiritual leaders/priests and politicians have more in common than they might admit.

you mean from the very beginning, huh?
i'm sure religion was changed to fit political needs. OT is a great example. we need that country, so we make god say "destroy these people, let nobody live"... -

of course. so does racism and nationalism. but religion can amplify this mentality when fighting against "unbelievers". people may start to question the cause, if they fight against their "brothers". not so, if they are "sectarians" or "pagans". it justifies the killing.
