  Did Jesus and Peter miss something in the story of Flood?

  yet another flood question.

  jesus and peter used the story of flood to illustrate how god will destroy hundreds of millions of evil people again.

  (let's assume they really said/wrote the things recorded in 2 peter 2:5 and mathew 24:38).. however, just after the flood god promised: .

  Yet another Flood question.

  Jesus and Peter used the story of Flood to illustrate how God will destroy hundreds of millions of evil people again. (Let's assume they really said/wrote the things recorded in 2 Peter 2:5 and Mathew 24:38).

  However, just after the Flood God promised:

  " My rainbow I do give in the cloud, and it must serve as a sign of the covenant between me and the earth. (...) N o more will the waters become a deluge to bring all flesh to ruin."

  What was the point of making this promise, if God's now going to bring all flesh to ruin, anyway?

  Did God really mean something along these lines:

  "This big water thing was really a pain the... Took so much time to sort things out after the whole thing was supposed to be over! I finally ended up having to miraculously multiply the population of humans and animals. And what really, really s**ks is that I had to allow hyper-speed evolution to ensure the pre-flood variety of species. I mean how are those young earth creationists in the 20th-21st century going to refute evolution now? I really have to think of another way of bringing all flesh to ruin.... Should have listened to Michael whe he said it ain't gonna work..."

  Ok, I'm getting carried away, but you get my point.

  Was this how Noah and his family + readers of Genesis were supposed to understand God's promise? Or did Jesus and Peter miss something?

  here is another paradox resulting from the wts stand on the flood:

  2. they also believe that by the 1st century ad racial differences had been well developed (i mean differences in the outward appearance of course, and not their early racist views for instance).

  What I find interesting here is that today they are finding unwater ruins of ancient civilizations off the coast of japan and india .

  How do you think Noah preached to people living off the coast of Japan? Oh, it's easy, isn't it - God could have sent a divine hologram of Noah, his family and the ark, so those folks could know the Flood was coming and repent, which they refused to do and thus were rightly obliterated. Children, adults and the mentally ill living off the ancient shore of Japan before the Flood - they were all equally guilty and deserved death only.

  I don't think they have raised enough money to investigate but when they do I think there will be some very astounding scientific evidence of pre flood humans .

  Again, you are using fuzzy assertions. You think there will be "astounding evidence of pre-flood humans". If it's your dream, then fine. If mentioning the possibility of discovering some evidence is your evidence then it doesn't convince me. Besides, do you basically mean astounding evidence of pre-2300 BC humans?

  Correct me if I'm wrong, but you really seem to have no problem with combining the two methods:

  a) the scientific method

  b) the Deus ex Machina method

  Perhaps final proof that "a hard-line approach" does NOT work. It never has and it never will. All it does is escalate the violence and inhumanity.

  That's my opinion, too. If you think about the situation carefully, it proves that next move belongs to Russia, or Putin and his advisors more exactly. They can decide to continue the Chechnyan oppression thus breeding more frustrated monsters such as the Osetia hostage takers. Or they may consider political solutions.

  One point most regional and global superpowers seem to miss is that no matter how big their military advantage is, they cannot eradicate or constantly humiliate entire nations in this age of suicidal terrorism.

  Oppression creates frustration which is in turn given vent to in terrorist atrocities.

  Peace in Russia is not possible without a fair political solution to the Chechnyan problem. Neither is peace possible in Israel as long as new Jews are settling on the West Bank of Jordan. I wonder how many Israelis and Russians will have to die before their leaders finally get it?

  I'm quite sure you both agree on these things. Rather than look for an argument, why don't you just take a step back and just think of what this post was really about, and that is the sadness that this happened to the children, and the joy that it is finally over.

  Yes, perhaps I was too rational/practical about it. It was like one of those classical Mars/Venus situations. I focused on the possible solution whereas glitter was expressing her impressions which are in fact pretty much the same as mine. It's her thread, so I'm backing off now.

  I'm not sure why you're asking me these questions -I only said terrorism hardly ever works according to the logics you suggest. Does that make you think I support these attacks in any way?

  If the militants want a fight then they should have a fair one with those who have actually wronged them.

  Do you seriously think it will ever work that way outside Hollywood movies? These terrorists (especially the women) haven't always been monsters. I do condemn these attacks, the Russians condem the attacks, most Chechnyas condemn this particular attack. This is a noble attitude. But such attacks will continue in Israel, Russia and all around the world where an attempt is made to obliterate an etire nation, unless the political reasons of the situations are properly recognized.

  The Russian army commit atrocities against the Chechens, but the militants have shown themselves to be absolutely ruthless and cowardly - they have got attention for their cause, see how much sympathy they get now, they've surely lost their support.

  Of course the situation of the innocent children is terrible. However you have to remember that this sort of terrorism is only going to become more widespread with thee the current Russian policy in Chechnya. Many of those terrorists are women (including the recent plane bombings and the subway bombing), whose husbands and perhaps even sons were killed by Russian monsters soldiers.

  What's more many of these muslim women had been raped by Russian soldiers befoe being recruited as terrorists. For a muslim woman to be raped means sociological death.They have nothing left, nothing to los and no scruples whatsoever. Are they ruthless? Yes. Are they cowards? They're just mentally crippled. If you have been breeding monsters for several years in opression and humility, don't be surprised when they turn against you.

  It's sad, but impossible to avoid.

  I hope the survivors get the best mental health care available - especially the kids, how are these kids ever going to be able to set foot in a school again?!

  Yes, exactly. Are you being ironic?. It's correct in statistical terms, because I was referring to the entire population over a period of 200 years and not to every individual woman at a particular moment. Getting an average figure with a decimal fraction is theoretically speaking infinitely more probable than assuming that every woman will give birth to exactly 5 (or any other round number of) children. So I'm almost infinitely more right than you in this respect! Unless you are just asking an honest question.
  
  

  What if you raise it to 10 children, 5 of which are girls? And for the sake of "Divine protection" give a premature death rate of 0?

  For a simulation period of 200 years this will probably crash my machine unless I rewrite the program to remember the growth ratio only. For now it keeps track of every individual person in the entire population and that creates a lot of perfomance overhead.

  Quick solution that should suffice:

  Below you have another 10 simulations with exactly the parameters you have asked for (no premature deaths, no infant deaths, constant life expectancy of 99 years). Another difference is that the time span in question is 190 instead of 200 years.

  To be honest your parameters are very unrealistic. After the initial 50 years or so, every single year added creates an exponential boom. I'm pretty sure with your parameters, after 1000 years you'd end up having trillions of little humans.THe life expectancy figure is constant (99 years). So in almost 200 years you have several hundred thousand births and just under a hundred of deaths. It's almost a paradise. As a result you'd have to have God intervene twice. First time to start this huge increase and second time to stop this process just as miraculously, before overcrowding the earth.

  Yes, divine protection solves every problem.

  EDITED TO ADD: The figures are still skewed because the child bearing age for each woman is randomly determined (within the 20-50 period though). Of course you could further rule this out by assuming that God arranged for every woman to give birth to a child on a regular basis. At this point however I'm kind of losing my itnerest in the whole speculation :(.
