That you must go there.
My sister just got a "we miss you at the meetings" letter from a young 'friend' as she's not been attending every meeting recently. Blech!!

i remember once seeing an older watchtower publication, i believe it was a study book from the late '60s or early '70s, in which one illustration showed a city with large buildings in the background, all burning and in ruins.
in the foreground, a group of well-groomed jw's smile joyously and raise their arms in praise to jehovah, apparantly thanking him for destroying civilization, but at least allowing them to live.
the picture was a little unsettling at the time, and now with the threat of terrorism, even more so.. does anyone remember which publication this image was from?
The power of conditioning never ceases to amaze me. Looking back, I can remember this piccie, and not being phased by it at all, maybe even thrilled by it a little. Now, it seems disturbing!! Very disturbing!!

..and if so, what form does such psychological damage take?.
my own experience is that damage does occur.. i was 8 years old when my parents became converted, so i wasn't exactly a totally white canvass on which my personality could be painted.
but i was a light shade of grey, so the impact of wt teaching was still quite considerable.. i think the most damage that i suffered was in the area of guilt and unworthiness.
I had similar hangups and confessed all to an elder. I felt worse after, because then I didn't feel like I could look him in the face anymore, or visit and hang out with his kids (his daughter was V sweet!!)

You have a griping way of expressing yourself
I do believe that was a freudian slip.... at least I hope you meant Gripping!! LOL

i did not know where most of my schoolmates lived, but i knew they were out there... somewhere.
i dreaded the thought of a door opening to a face i knew from school.
it was like walking through a minefield for me... every door was like another step... would my next step be my last???
I knew where most of the kids in my class lived, and stumbled across quite a few others out on the ministry. I hated it, with a passion! I talked my boss into letting me work Saturday mornings for an extra £5.00 as soon as I started work... that only left Sundays to face!!
Possibly the worst one I ever called on was a kid that I'd fought with several times, and won each time!! It didn't go down well - and you guessed it, another fight ensued on Monday after school! I won again - he never learnt!! Strange thing is, we met up again at a school reunion, and it was like we were best mates!!

orlando, fla. -- a central florida woman was fired from her job after eating "unclean" meat and violating a reported company policy that pork and pork products are not permissible on company premises, according to local 6 news.
" holfeld asked.
"we do, we can," kweli said.
I hope she wins this - as 'multicultural' nations, we are expected to be accommodating in all areas of life, for all ethnic, cultural and religious differences. It's about time we were accommodated by the minorities too!!

my witness friends and i bought doom 3 yesterday to play at my house.
i let one of my friends play first and it scared him so he quit.
next day at the meeting, i tell them how intense the game is, and they are all like "you should burn the game you should throw away the game.

Doogie:
why don't we go and live naked in the woods, with our eyes closed and hands pressed over our ears
Obviously we can't do that..... we'd end up with splinters in places where splinters should never be splintered!!! Ouch!!

i lost someone very special to me.
my cat.. she was 12 years old.
she was the friendliest, most loving, cat i had ever owned.
I had a huge persian called Mortimer that I had to have put down. He was only 3 years old, and one evening we heard a pitiful meow from the bushes. His back legs were paralysed, and he had lost control of his bodily functions. We had him extensively examined, and not a thing could be found wrong - i.e. no bruising, no breaks, no internal damage. I cried for ages, I held him as they put him to sleep!!!
We buried him in the front garden - found a lovely spot under a tree, and I dug what I thought was a substantial hole, but my wife wanted it to be deeper. The next strike with the shovel went through the water mains!!! Needless to say we found a new spot for him!!
Losing a pet IS losing a member of the family! I share your pain, and wish you well.

i had a fantastic holiday in florida with some good friends back in 2000 - 3 couples and a single lass.
the link below to the news story was the seventh member of our party.. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/nottinghamshire/3539662.stm.
feels really weird - was looking through some video footage of the holiday to try and get some extra pictures of her, for her best friend.. what could possibly have been going through his mind when he did this ??
Cheers LT - on my way! (I wish!!!!)
<deep sigh>
