I don't understand the point of this thread. If there ever is a terrorist attack on an assembly of JWs, I think you just made yourself prime suspect.
There are all sorts of trade shows and events that include a large gathering of people. I don't think the JWs are any more of a target, and I don't think the average terrorist distinguishes the JWs as needing punishment over other Americans.

Your comments indicate that you are not familiar with many facts of Bob Bryant's personal life, but you are so quick to allow that Watchtower dogma could have had nothing to do with his actions.
I think you may have missed my point. I do not know the facts of Bob Bryants' personal life. My point was that, chances are, no one on this list knows enough about the situation to start making statements about what caused this man to possibly kill his family and himself. Basing an opinion on newspaper articles is complete speculation. Using this tragedy to further a tirade against the WT is a shame. It is disrespectful to the victims and their families to redirect the focus from the culprit to the religion that he may have been associated with just because it fits your agenda against that religion.
Now, do the Witnesses hold any beliefs that might be seen by a man in an agitated emotional state - I'll admit that I'm only ASSUMING his emotional state was "agitated" - is it possible that he was clam, deliberate and logical when he did this? You tell me - as giving him permission to put his wife and children and then himself "to sleep" for "a little while"?I'm not sure I understand the above. I believe you may be saying that the teachings of the JWs may have allowed this man to rationalize his actions. If so....so what. A demented person can dementedly twist anything he wants to rationalize his actions. It is obviously not taught by the JWs that in extreme situations it is OK to kill people to get them everlasting life, otherwise you would see more of this happening among JWs. Even if JW teachings were involved (my main point being that we don't know), it is not their fault that the freakish person who committed this crime twisted their teachings to fit his will.

Trying to connect this murder to his being apostate is as silly as connecting it to JW policy. Aunty's post was spot on. There is nothing in this man's life that was an excuse for what he did, therefore the blame can only land on the murderer. If you are going to connect the responsibility with him being apostate, or with the JWs, then you also need to blame everyone else, maybe his job didn't give him the raise he requested, maybe his customers didn't like his hairstyle so he didn't get repeat business. The point is...WHO KNOWS? I doubt anyone on this board does, yet everyone is quick to use it as an example for their own agenda.

I agree with Simon and plmkrzy, I don't think anyone besides those closely involved with the situation (police, family, and close friends) could possibly attempt to pinpoint the cause of this tragedy.
I don't think there are any WT teachings or ways of life that can be connected to the idea of murdering your family, otherwise this would be a more common occurance among JWs.
Trying to blame the WT for this is the same as saying that it was because BillyBob gave him a black eye in the 5th grade and he has never been the same since.

we had to do one home visit because the little girl we were going to see has been ill and has not been able to attend her early child program.
she is 3 and has a disease where half of her brain did not form and she does not have a pitutary gland.

Wow, how can I argue with REAL FACTS? This thread is not about beating children and that was not the discussion going on between WW and myself. I do not wish to discuss whether or not spanking children is appropriate.
Fact 3I believe you may need to brush up on your current JW teachings. JWs teach that the "rod" spoken of in the bible refers to the rod a shepherd uses which is used for guiding rather than beating. So the JWs do not teach that you should "spank".
JWs are taught that "to spare the rod" is to spoil the child!

I usually don't, but in a sensitive situation I like to fault on the side of kindness. I certianly wouldn't be quick NOT to believe either. Especially in a sensitive situation where, if you are wrong, your words can be extremely hurtful.

I feel for those children, mostly because they had to be adopted. I hope their situation is better than it seems.
I am not saying all JW are dumb when it comes to child development, but the way they set up the meetings is not good for children. They need to move and be active to learn. They do not learn like adults. They are not little adults like JW's say. Making a child sit for 2 hours and listen to adults blabber is not good.I figured you didn't mean all JWs, but just wanted to cast a different light. I'm not sure if I agree with you on the rest of the quote above. Although it may not be the most conducive environment for learning, children do learn. For me, I was able to know the bible very well at a young age (and we didn't do much family studying so it was mostly meetings.) I was also able to develop a good set of morals that kept me out of a lot of trouble (not all!) So I see nothing wrong with children going to meetings. It helped me in my schoolwork as well. Again, I know it is not the best environment for learning at a very young age, but it works to some degree.
And when kids are noisy other JW often look at the parents and think they can not control their kids. That is a bunch of bull. I just think requiring that much out of small children is ridiculous.
I agree with you on this. People who act that way to parents have personal flaws and there is not a whole lot the WT can do about that. I think a balanced JW recognizes when its time to take your child for a walk outside, maybe go look at some flowers or look for lizards or whatever, instead of trying to endure the whole meeting.

I agree that does not seem like a healthy situation, but come on, have a little faith in the human spirit
but the nurse did not know where the other one was, interesting huh?Lord knows, with that many kids, running to the store is probably something best done alone. I do it with 2 kids and running to the store to buy milk takes about 3 times as long. Who knows, maybe he's out buying crack or getting a package of diapers.
Apparently witnesses know nothing about child development....I don't know about that. My wife is a JW and in charge of early child development at a Montessori school. And our children are very good at sitting still at a meeting without beating them.

That does sound like a shady situation. I definitely wouldn't jump to conclusions about them beating the children though, that is a serious accusation based on a general dislike of JWs (I'm assuming.) If they are JWs then it sounds like some messed up people that happen to be JWs. I seriously doubt being a JW would drive anyone to adopt 14 kids, especially if a number of them require special care. I truly hope those people are sincere and can care for those children, even though it does not seem likely.
