Agreed. I was referring to the talk of "bullshit detectors" and how subjective bias is what decides what many people will or will not believe.

Mind Control & Urban Legends
by freeman inwitness urban legends.
you know what they are; we have all heard them before.
the stories that somehow show the witnesses or their teachings in a good light but always seem to contain elements that would seem preposterous to most people.

There is no escape, no way out...
by butalbee ini've been invited to go to a study group again, by a sister who i work with, she said she would like to explain some doctrines to me that i might had misunderstood, and would like to get together and talk.
she also gave me 5 magazines--told me, of the great articles, that i should read.

My RITEOUS SELF, huh? No thanks, I have a wife.
If you feel the only way to handle those types of situations is by resorting to drastic measures then I guess that is your lot in life. I prefer to stick with common courtesies.

LOL, an example? It would start a million threads of people defending their views if I gave specific examples. There are plenty of posts and replies on here that are obviously rooted in the emotions of the person and how they perceived that they were wronged by the WT. We are all subjective by nature, it is just some are more inflicted by it than others. Complete objectivity is unattainable, but worth the effort nevertheless.

It is called subjective bias. Unfortunately it has nothing to do with mind control, but seems to be a common trait among Humans in general. Even a good number of XJWs on this DB are inflicted with it.

Some are more persistant, but if you ridicule them the same you would a superstitious fool who won't walk under ladders, they usually leave you be. ESPECIALLY if you do it out loud, in front of others. :)
There you go! That's a good tactic! Did you pick that fine trait up in high school?
I believe the above actions to be the root cause of most of the problems in the world.

Then what is the WT child abuse policy....
by amccullough ini have recently had the misofortune of being involved in the revealing of a child molestation case.
my wife's niece recently came forward about being molested approximately 5 years ago by someone holding responsibilities in her congregation.
my in-laws found out the same day as we did.

Puffs - My wife was molested at a young age and nothing was done. Her mother was molested and nothing was done. Her Aunt was molested and nothing was done. None of them were JWs at the time. It seems to me that these problems, as well as your family's probelems, are HUMAN problems, not WT problems. I am wide awake.
Valis-
amccullough You don't have to prove anything to me, but most of us who post here have heard the gammut of people claiming things, and ALWAYS declining to give details out of some privacy hang up. Even if we had the city the person was to be tried in, cases that are on a court's docket, are public record.
Privacy...what a stupid hang up, huh? The man's name was printed in the paper. I don't deny that it can be public information. I will have no part, however, in propagating the accusations to those not involved. Not until he is convicted, and then I will freely say his name and location and tell everyone I know.Besides, anyone who puts themselves in a postition where they are accused of child molestation should be willing to make a public stand in thier own defense. Unless of course they are guilty and should be castrated or worse. JWs make public stances on everything else, blood, the flag, the millitary, holidays, etc..why not the fact they they aren't guilty of such a crude and offensive act?
I have serious problems with the above quote. How does someone put themselves in this position? How can you cast any blame on somone who is innocent until proven guilty, saying that he has put himself in that position? By being a father? Does that put you in that position? By your daughter inviting friends over to stay the night? Does that put you in the position? This man IS publicly defending himself. However, even if you are innocent, an accusation like child molestation will never leave you once it is made common knowledge. That is why I prefer privacy. Do not get me wrong, I believe this man is guilty and,if so,hope he is convicted where he will be wronged himself in prisonAlanF-
I appreciate your response and the time you took to form it. It does shed some light on the history. Again, it seems to me that this is a HUMAN problem which the WT has inherited by being HUMANS. I am glad that it seems to be improving. -

Valis- This man has yet to be convicted and I do not wish to reveal his name or locale by chance that he is not found guilty. I have not spoken with my niece personally about her experience, so I am going off the faith of others that her statement seems accurate. On top of that, I have no idea who you are and have no need to prove my story to you. It doesn't matter to me if you believe it or not. I stated it because I have repeatedly heard that the WT conceals child molesters and that has not been my experience. I would be interested in hearing from you on how easy it is to find out the results or whether or not someone is being tried. If there is anything that beats fishing the local paper each day I would appreciate it.
Puffs - I have read SilentLambs website. How do you know this does not happen often? I don't know if it does or doesn't. That website caters to those who feel they have been wronged by the WT, so any cases that were taken care of promptly or that wished to remain concealed won't be part of that site. In addition, since much of the material are testimonials to the fact, we don't know the entire situation and should reserve judgement.

OK, what of my last two posts does not make sense?
I am not a teenager, I am a grown woman, who respects and treats everyone I see with compassion and sincerity.
Except JWs?They all come and bug me, I do nothing but try my damnest to ignore them.
Then it's simple. Don't ignore them, but instead politely tell them that you are not interested. If they insist, tell them you that you respect their beliefs and will not try to convince them that you are right and they are wrong and you would like them to do the same. Then you won't have to go on to DBs to talk about them behind their back.

Again, you are right!!! They probably gather in groups to scheme on the best way to ultimately destroy your life.
Gimme a break, you sound like a teenager saying things like that (maybe you are, I don't know.) Try not to be so subjective to any bitter feelings you have towards them. If you don't like the way they treat you, then raise yourself above and act with respect back, otherwise you have no room for complaint. Ever hear of the Golden Rule? Despite being cliche, it has merit.

I have recently had the misofortune of being involved in the revealing of a child molestation case. My wife's niece recently came forward about being molested approximately 5 years ago by someone holding responsibilities in her congregation. My in-laws found out the same day as we did. They went straight to their elders (in a different town)and we encouraged the mother of the child to go straight to the police. This was difficult, as the accused was a dearly loved friend of ours who had overcome some serious trials in his own life and transformed himself into a respectable human being. Anyhow the out of town elders contacted the local elders immediately. The local elders no doubt contacted HQ, and then went straight to the police BEFORE THE MOTHER EVEN MADE IT TO THE POLICE. I see lots of statements on this DB and others that it is WT policy to conceal these people but that has not been my personal experience. Within 2 weeks the man was arrested and I believe he goes on trial today.
