I do not understand how such a F%&$D up org. could put out such beautiful music.
i think the thing we have to bear in mind is that these tunes were composed first and foremost by gifted composers/musicians, who were no doubt later dragged into the org and felt it their duty to give up the goods and score for it.
i remember someone in the congregation i was in knew a guy who had composed one of the melodies and they remarked how he cried the first time they played it at an assembly, so i guess even for jw's music is an emotional experience.
i also found a sickening article on hov.org on the journey to find these wonderful midi files...
http://www.watchtower.org/library/w/2000/6/1/article_01.htm
"Susie's first love was music. "I started to play the piano at the age of 6, the violin at 10, and finally the harp at 12," she explains. Susie later attended the Royal College of Music in London, England, to study the harp. She studied for four years with a famous Spanish harpist and a further year at the Paris Conservatoire, gaining an honors degree in music as well as diplomas for playing the harp and teaching the piano.
Susie became associated with a congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses in London. There she found genuine interest and love among fellow Witnesses. Gradually, her love for Jehovah grew, and her zeal for his service prompted her to seek ways to serve him. This led to dedication and baptism. "Having music as a career is a dedicated way of life, so a life of dedication was not unfamiliar to me," Susie observes. Her time for concert performances decreased as she engaged in the Christian ministry of preaching the good news of God's Kingdom in obedience to Jesus' instructions.?Matthew 24:14; Mark 13:10.
Now that she spends only a limited time performing music, how does she feel? "Sometimes a little frustrated that I don't have more time to practice," she admits, "but I still play my instruments and enjoy music. Music is a gift from Jehovah. I enjoy it more now that I have put his service first in my life."?Matthew 6:33."
i feel so sorry for people like this who are so brainwashed that even though they hate that they can't do what they love, they cannot say it openly... i do not know on what planet that is encouraging.

do you ever write posts but not post them?
by dh ini find that i do it a lot, often to do with politcal threads, i read some of the stuff people write and i want to rip into it so badly, of course because i know i am right all of the time and everyone else just thinks they are, so i write a post, then i read it and don't bother to post it... i figure, why destroy everyone elses illusions that they are right?
that just wouldn't be nice.. sometimes i spend a while writing a long post, then i just hit ctrl+a followed by space bar, and back in my browser... does anyone else do this or is it just me?
i am particularly interested to hear from other people who like myself are right all of the time but would feel guilty about shattering everyone else's illusions.

What is the WT fell?
by paulE inwhat would be the consequences to society in general?
would there be enough psychotrist to handle 6,000,000 new patients?.
would office buildings be scrambling to find new janitorial services, since all the "pioneer janitorial service" operators would find real jobs?.

and... i like to have the most portable fully featured laptop available, otherwise i start to twitch.
i probably sound like a totally materialistic individial, but for me these items are mission critical, bad shoes are terrible, there's nothing worse than having to walk miles in shoes that look good but hurt, it's a nightmare, have you ever seen anything that looks more ridiculous than a person trying to look good in shoes that are killing them? well if you haven't, here is number 2. you're using a piece of luggage that you got cheap, it looks great, but just as you are performing a vital manouvre, like lifting it over a rail or up some stairs, the handle breaks, why does it break? because you overloaded it, aggh, you overloaded it why? because you're smarter than the manufacturer and thought you could fit a little more in! the luggage leaves you looking like even more of an idiot than the shoes because it always happens when you are surrounded by people who are rushing, and you wind up missing the train or flight, or worse, running to try to catch it with luggage in hand... have you ever tried picking up and running with a piece of luggage that is meant to be pulled on wheels? not to mention the bits of broken handle stabbing you while you try in vane to get to gate 357... and last but not least... the portable computer, this is a must for any neurotic net junkie or person who pretends to need it for work, however it can't be just any lame laptop, no it has to have everything, yes everything, if it hasn't got everything it's because they didn't make it right, and that was the easy part, next it has to be small, tiny in fact, or at least small enough to not look like a compromise... why does it have to be so small? duh, to fit in with the shoes!
i have no idea why i posted this.

how has your life changed in the last 10 years
by dh in.
ten years is a long time, what changes has your life undergone in the last 10 years?
-
dh
dh, did I miss something or are you gonna share with us how your life has changed?
my life has changed in that i am now i am ten years older, i left school around this time ten years ago, i think essentially it's the same just now i have a lot more experiences.
when i was 16 i was not married, had no kids, liked experiencing new things, loved music and being creative, spent a lot of time alone, life felt meaningless but i looked forward to the future, and at 16 i didn't have too many commitments.
now i am 26, i'm still not married, still have no kids, still like the same stuff as when i was 16, still spend a lot of time alone, still have hardly any commitments and still have a lot of years to go, life still feels totally meaningless, only now the future doesn't look bright, it just looks just certain.
for me the last ten years seem to be just more more more of the same same same, though i have to say i have done quite a lot in those ten years, i laugh about my life sometimes because it doesn't seem real, it's more like a jigsaw puzzle. at 18 i left the jw's, but it wasn't really a big deal at all. i guess my life has undergone some extreme ups and downs, it's funny to think that at 16 i wanted to handmake furniture for a living, and now it's something i think about perhaps doing for a hobby when i retire (still got some time to go before then).
when i was 16 i had such an insane unstoppable drive to do things that i could not afford to do, but now that i can afford to do those things i no longer have the drive or desire.
i think the major change in the past ten years is that at 16, even though i felt bad, i felt like there was something bright to look forward to, like i had time to make it happen, now i know that life is just life and we just have to get on with it.
i guess if i have to pick any single thing that has changed in the last ten years through all of the shit, it's that now i am more grounded.
