Thanks for the related article. I remember reading that before, but I couldn't remember the details. When I re-read it just now, I remembered why: the portion where they describe raising the speed of light is handled in only two semi-informative sentences! :-)

I thought the speed of light was one of those constant things of the universe you could count on. Guess I was wrong.
The speed of light we all know and love is the speed of light in a vaccuum, which is its top speed in the universe and appears to be an unchanging "speed limit." However, light naturally moves at different speeds in different media (water, glass, etc), and (now apparently) different environmental conditions in those media can affect it as well.

well, it's hard to believe, but i'm finally ready to go on my world travels that i've been planning for so long.
seriously, i've been trying to get out of here since way back in my witness days, at least four or five years.
finally, i've gotten everything lined up, all the loose ends tied - i am on my way.. i leave this thursday for my first leg: 3 months in japan!

Well, I've arrived and set up shop at my friends house. Over the weekend I took care of a few logistics issues like power and internet connectivity, so I'm now set up to have fun and take care of business. We spent yesterday afternoon looking at housing options, and I found a great little place about a 10-minute train ride out from my friend's house. It's out of the city a bit so the rents are lower and the neighborhood is quiter. I took a walk through there this morning just to confirm that I liked the location. Plus my friend and I played some hardball negotiations with the realtor and got him to lower the price! I'll be leaving in a few minutes to tie up the contract on that.

Where in Japan are you going? And what will you be doing there?
I'll be starting in Narita, near Tokyo. I have a friend who lives there, so I'll stay with him for a few weeks, during which time I'll be looking for an apartment to make into a home base. During my stay I'll be working as I do now on various software development projects, and traveling on the weekends or for a week here or there. Basically, it's a working holiday.

I leave this Thursday for my first leg: 3 months in Japan! After that, it's flexible. I may stay another 3 months, or I may jump on to my next destination, somewhere in Europe that I'm still undecided on. At any rate, the adventure is finally beginning!

hi all my friends, i've been absent from posting for a few months.
snowed in with uni work, and just generally choosing to lie low.
but, i thought it was time to come out of hybernation to give you what i believe is some pretty good news with respects to the relationship that exists (or rather hasn't existed for a few years) with my jw mum.. a couple of years ago mum texted me to tell me that she received my letter to family in march just gone, but wasn't sure how to respond to it.
