Are some people REALLY better off in high-control groups?
by seattleniceguy inin holly's good-bye thread, quotes mentioned that he felt that some people were better off in high-control groups.
i've heard othes say similar things.. but i have a difficult time with this.
is it not true that high-control groups stiffle a person's emotional and intellectual development?

In case some have not seen this...Here is the Box..
My Lovely Box
I want to show you my box.
It is a lovely box. It is sturdy and strong box.
It is beautifully shaped with 6 smooth sides
I love my box
In side my box I am in my own favorite place
My box clearly defines the boundaries of my world
I know who is in and who is out
I know what is in and what is out.
My box answers all of my questions??I like that.
I am secure in my box.
I love my box.
I occasionally invite people into my box
I measure them and size them to be sure they fit into my box
So long as they are the right size I can have them in.
Not many measure up.
Those that don?t fit have the option of changing their size.
They can lose and arm or a leg.
But strangely most of them don?t want to do that.
They tell me they don?t like my box.
I don?t understand these people.
I love my box.
Some people tell me they like my box
It is mostly the ones who fit my box who tell me this.
They have one just like it.
They love their box too.
Inside my box I am in my own favorite place.
My box clearly defines the boundaries of my world.
I know who is in and who is out.
I know what is in and what is out.
My box answers all my questions??I like that.
I am secure in my box.
I love my box.
I have heard other people talk about their box.
There are some mighty strange boxes out there
Some decorate their boxes on the outside and make them pretty.
Some line their boxes on the inside to make them soft and comfortable.
Some like their boxes plain and simple.
Some eat in their boxes, others don?t.
Some have parties and celebrations, other don?t.
Some say a box is a place to be serious.
Others laugh a lot in their boxes.
I don?t know, I don?t know.
All I know is I love my box.
I thought about leaving my box once
I looked around but everything seemed so?well?dangerous
I thought if I left my box that I would end up losing my way.
Outside my box I had feelings that frightened me.
I heard words that were different from my words.
I saw people I didn?t understand.
I didn?t know where the boundaries were.
The world was too big.
I didn?t know what to do.
In the end I went back to my box.
Inside my box I am in my own favorite place.
My box clearly defines the boundaries of my world.
I know who is in and who is out.
I know what is in and what is out.
My box answers all of my questions?.I like that.
I am secure in my box.
I love my box!

It seems that some people like having their major decisions made for them, and also like having a lot of their thinking done for them
Take my Wife....please. Damm who was the comic that had that line ?? Henny Youngman ??
So again I ask, is anyone truly better off in a high-control group?
The answer is YES. There are people who can't cope with life without having a soother stuck in their mouth. If they had to face reality it would cause serious emotional issues for them. It is better for them to stay in the box. -

by garybuss inyearbook of jehovah's witnesses 1970 p.9.
watch tower bible & tract society of pennsylvania 1969 need for mental cleansing.
it is evident, therefore, that there must be a cleaning out of the mind if there is to be an implanting of right thinking.

Looks like they're trying to extol the virtues of brainwashing.
Walter
They TWIST the word brainwashing to their own advantage. I remember a district assembly in the early 1970's. The Co was giving a talk. I believe his name was Veenstra. (something like that) He made the point that"opposers" claimed that JW's were brainwashed. He said that was TRUE. We all needed to have our brains washed clean from the FILTH of the world etc. etc etc. The crowd went wild with applause.Yes..Yes..Yes..We are all brainwashed and we thank the WT for doing it to us.

The hounds are finally catching their hunt!
Gumby
The problem is that the hounds are not chasing a fox but a SKUNK. Let the hunt continue..

Does the WTS's past matter?
by M.J. ini know, i'd jump into this topic by saying, "heck yeah.
they're the ones saying they've been appointed by god based on what they were doing back around 1914-1919.
" but i'm trying to help someone out who has reached a roadblock with his wife.

So here's the critical point: If it is understandable that Joe or Jane Reasonable might have legitimately dismissed the group as crackpots in times past, were they in the wrong for doing so? If not, what about in more recent times, when a person could have legitimately dismissed the group for their strange beliefs (such as calling organ transplants "cannibalism")? Would a person then have been in the wrong for conscientiously deciding that the group was wrong? Keen in mind that even modern Witnesses must agree that the group was wrong back then.
SNG...I like your reasoning. At some point in their history they should be prepared to own up to their blunders. As it stands the doctrine of "new light" allows them to weasel out of any responsibility for their past beliefs.

Poztate.....What can I say, jews always want 20% off. Not me, when I was born....my dad looked at my dinger and told the doc ..."you better not circumcize him, he needs all he can get".
Damm Thats what I thought too. You were only born with so much and to lop half of it off cause that's what god wanted never seemed right to me. -

Looks like a 12 year old boy in the first stages of puberty. Maybe the sculptor was a boy lover? There were a lot of those around Rome and Greece at the time.
Don't mind Gumby's reaction. He paid thousands to get someone to do the sculpture of him. I think Gumby's problem came when he tried to haggle on the price. You should never have said "would you mind taking a little bit off"....(the price)

Hunter Thompson "suicided" for inside info on 9/11?
by truth_about_the_truth intoronto globe and mail | february 26, 2005:

hunter telephoned me on feb. 19, the night before his death.

I don't think that conversation between Thompson and Roberts actually took place. The statement right after the part quoted above says, "That's how I imagine a tribute to Hunter S. Thompson should begin."

What Bethel Taught Me About SuperRighteous People
by metatron inin it's own harsh way, bethel taught me some vital lessons about life.
work hard,.
play hard, drink hard and don't trust the goons in charge.. one of the scenarios that would replay itself over and over again concerned a subclass.

Bethel tempered with cheap brandy, hidden Playboy magazines and
encounters with nice inner city sisters who 'weren't serious'.
Wow....I just read your post. I never considered Bethel Service before but now....I WANT TO SERVE..
