Hi Blondie,
A similar thread was done a few days ago...See what happens when you leave us for a while.
The witnesses only help themselves and would never DREAM to give something back esp to an organization like the Red Cross.
Here was my reply to that one.
Luis Grullon, who speaks little English, works as a laborer for Interstate Cleaning Corp. The family is receiving help from the local temple of Jehovah's Witnesses, of which they are members, and the Utica chapter of the American Red Cross, which is providing food, clothing and shelter to the 14 families displaced by the fire.
This newspaper article should be corrected...so I did it

I wonder if they will initiate a 'reaching out to the lost ones' campaign like they had a few years ago. It would make a nice cover for spying on those trying to fade in order to get enough info to kick them out for good.
This could indeed be the start of a new campaign. This time around they wouldn't need to catch you doing anything bad. They could just ask you to start going back to meeting and out in FS again.....Oh you say you don't want to??? Well...I guess that means you don't want to be one of JW's cause that's what a real JW does. We will just announce that you don't want to be a JW at the next meeting. Have a nice day To get rid of the rif raff drifters WHO ME ???

The shunning doctrine did it for me. When I first got baptised there was a hard line on shunning including close relatives. Being a good little dub(and braindead) I proceeded to shun my mother who had been DF'ed 20 years before.
Then "new light"? came out in 1974 I believe when a moderation in policy was announced. It was no longer necessary to shun relatives as long as they were not "apostates" I studied that article hard and looked up all the scriptures like a good boy and concluded this was indeed new light. I resumed a relationship with my Mom.
1982 came along and the WT artice on DF'ing REVERSED themselves once again. Talk about BS.
It was the week of the CO's visit and I was grumpy. I confronted him at the hall before the meeting about the"new, new understanding and he just shrugged it off on the basis that the new light is always right. I stormed out of the KH.
A day or two later I got a visit from the CO and PO. I was urged to just humbly accept this new truth and "wait on jehovah"?to clear things up in my mind. I saw the real truth right then and there and got out. I would still be waiting on jehovah if I had gone back.
Now I am just another happy little POZTATE

JW in Germany have to change their byelaws on data keeping
by GermanXJW inwhen i sent my da-letter i demanded that my data have to be deleted.
i got a reply that the "religious community of jw in germany" (like the ccjw this is different from the watchtower) keeps data on me like other churches, too.
well, in germany we have a governmental data protection office in each land.

I guarantee you those power-crazed madmen at Bethel have already heard about it and their lawyers are trying to formulate a comeback.
The easiest answer for them is to store your records in another country that does not have laws to protect your privacy. Poland and Germany could just send the files to New York to keep.
When officials ask them are YOU keeping any records they can
honestlyanswer...NOI do not trust them to ever destroy records no matter what they tell officials.

Those old farts are actually security?
Robyn
Maybe they take a more passive role in the States but here in Canada they check your sales slip against what is in your cart to make sure you aren't trying to steal something.
When you go through the exit doors and the sales person does not deactivate the security tags imbedded in many boxes or merchandise an alarm is sounded.
In Canada it is...Please return to your nearest sales counter. Apparently we have failed to remove the inventory control tag from your merchandise. It does sound a lot friendlier than "Stop Thief or We Will Shoot"
They use old people a lot to do the job. I am sure a young person armed with a 357. magnum might scare a little business away.

Captain Schmideo,
Thanks for taking the time to do the scan and link for us. I always love to get this kind of information before my wife does
Yes I got this last KM night also - definitely official but no word about it being 48 pages
The 48 page thing was a typo on another thread (no not mine) The Awake will continue to stay a mind numbing 32 pages long -

Why Are Some Superstitions Okay?
by Swan inthis is one of the things i never understood as a jw.
i was told that jws were not superstitious people.
as followers of the true god jehovah, we weren't to give in to false beliefs, even if others were practicing them.

The only Superstition I have is I will Die March 15th. I don't know what year. That day I stay inside my house.
Hope there aren't any earthquakes that day....

Trying to find an old picture
by stevenyc ini wonder if anyone can remember a drawing, i think it was in the old children book (pink/orange hard cover if i remember correctly), of babies being offered up as sacrifies to a false god.
the god looked like a huge chair/alter with flames ( i think) and horns.. .

They re-released it in the 70's? I guess that they weren't satisfied with just scaring the JW children during the 60's.
Getting closer. The winner is .....1958

Understanding why people leave
by Qcmbr inhi all, just thought i'd introduce myself before i make any other posts - i'm lds through and through 'nuff said.
why am i here, well i've been reading the posts here for over a year and i initially enjoyed them in a sneaky rival faction way (i.e.
one in the eye for jw's yehaw..)but of late i've been redaing these posts and using them to critique my own approach to my faith.

Hiya GetBusyLiving, Why did I become a Mormon? I grew up in the faith - simple as that. I did the prayer to find out if the church is true - got my answer - never really looked back (though I wobbled several times - especially after I was a missionary.) I do want to avoid 'bearing testimony'- I'm fairly certain this isn't what this site is for - but thanks for asking anyhow.
You might have a lot of explaining to do. I see that LDS is the same as JW"s in that they use a lot of language and expressions only understood by those"in the faith" You might have to explain unfamiliar terms to us and I am sure we will return the favour. Welcome to the board
