Freemind, the problem is far more complex than that.
Of course there will be people who cannot escape the cult, just like there are some women who never are able to escape the bonds of an abusive spouse. But...just saying, "let's educate those women and drop the laws that condemn the abuser", isn't a very socially responsible position to take.
Both have to occur for a victim to "escape" - education and socially constructed laws that condemn the abuser.

So what? Does that mean that everybody else should back down from asserting their right to be free from religion just because of what that religion will do next? Isn't that part of the problem? Sanchy: Not to hijack the thread, but I'd argue that there's a blurred line between Communism and pure Socialism. Aren't the controllers/owners of all property, business and/or residential, in a purely Marxist state for all intents and purposes the state itself?
There is no argument. Of course the line is blurred. And, not just on the left (communist) side...the line is fuzzy on the right (fascist) side too.
Socialism is where politics are played out - it is the middle part of the spectrum where public political games are played. It is that middle sector that the ends fight over. Win the middle ground, and you win the game.

I think so too.
The only way that a person can stand up against a totalitarian society is to get rid of the roots of it. And that includes standing up for the rights of everyone in society, not just those who want to step on everybody else's rights.
Freedom of religion stops at the point it treads on freedom from religion. And, everybody has that fundamental right too - to be free from religion. How do you satisfy both?

Communism = when government controls/owns business
Fascism = when business controls/owns government
Socialism = mid point between the two extremes (the middle ground)
OP, I don't think you understand your political terms correctly. I think the term you are looking for is "totalitarianism". Which can exist at both ends of the political spectrum (communists are far left and fascists are far right). The other place you can find totalitarian societies is in fringe/extremist/fundamentalist religions.
You might want to read up a little about Chechnya too. It will help you to understand that simply pointing a finger at Russia and screaming fascism is a bit myopic.

i watched a show yesterday and they were talking about how the largest mammals of the sea (whales) fed on such small creatures (plankton) rather than eating some other large creatures.
anyway, it got me thinking about how as jws we thought that in paradise animals would all be herbivores, that they would no longer eat other animals.
I think Jehovah has a handle on the blood sucking animal world. He has got it all figured out.
It is simple - the blood suckers only actually use "fractions" of the blood they suck. The rest just gets pooped out. Spilled on the ground.

The DPA cards are being used as a way to measure spiritual health. If you hand it in, it signifies that you are worthy of the elders' attention concerning health matters. And, once you qualify with the elders (and you don't if you don't file your DPA card), then you will qualify for consideration from the glorious HLC.
Handing in your DPA signals that you are "spiritually strong".
They are filtering out the JWs who could potentially embarrass the HLC by "not standing firm" on the blood refusal. The HLC don't want to waste their time on JWs who may not comply. (or can't afford alternative treatment). They have so many important duties to do - like recruiting bloodless doctors for their bloodless cult. Making presentations to hospitals and keeping that cooperative doctor file up to date.
