after finishing season 6, episode 5, it occurred to me that, if the jws were right, (they’re not), the “new system” would end up being very much like this.
picture the commanders as the elders.. it’s a riveting series.
i wanted to see it, because i read the book when it first came out.
3rd gen and I started watching The Handmaid's Tale a couple of years ago. She has started again recently.
Scary!
Reminds me of most countries in Islam...or what far right cultists, and some fanatical JWs I have known would consider "godly".
I watched "DAS BOOT" series last week. The Nazi fanatics had some of the same ideas.
It only takes a minority of fanatics in the population to make the majority miserable.
i like to take a peek at the kids over on reddit every week or so.. this thread caught my eye:" curious….
do any ex jw or pimo, still believe the world is ending.
i see people who have never been witnesses think that the world will end soon and they say things like “jesus is coming soon”….
Let's not forget the 1900s! :) JWs get a lot of mentions.

i scanned this article and i saw a theme throughout it.
when info like this shows up in the study wt, you can be sure the elders are doing it wrong and the wts hits directly on what it is.
older elders do it wrong and train by word and action the newer elders to do it wrong.
I was astounded by the questions publishers asked me because I was an Elder. Financial, legal, psychiatric, medical, career, marital....and sometimes scriptural. lol. I would ask them what their PROFESSIONAL advisor had suggested. Of course, they hadn't consulted a professional. Watchtower always paid for professionals, but they constantly beat the drum to the JW rank and file that "Elders were appointed by the holy spirit", so I can see where some would equate this teaching with "special knowledge" from god himself imparted on Elders. No wonder most of the advice is so bad, leaving rank and file JWs to suffer, and the givers of the advice so pompous.

If you read about multi-generational wealth, emotional IQ, and financial planning, one subject that comes up is cultural differences. Practical training in budgeting, saving, compound interest, and career choices are things some cultures and affluent families tend to share with their children.
Pew did a study years ago comparing the financial wellbeing of adherents of various religions. Jehovah's Witnesses placed at the very bottom. If you "leave everything in God's hands", because "the end is coming any day", or "pray about it", you tend to not PLAN for emergencies, or eventual retirement. https://www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/2016/10/11/how-income-varies-among-u-s-religious-groups/

I see people who have never been witnesses think that the world will end soon and they say things like “Jesus is coming soon”…. I mean any human can look around and see how ridiculous this world is getting. Morality is in the trash…it even feels like a shift and the world definitely seems like it’s headed to destruction.
Not necessarily into the religion but I do believe the ending of it all.."
I gave my answer...that this belief is common throughout history. Wikipedia has a fun link with over approx. 170 end date beliefs in the last 2,000 years. (Watchtower is listed multiple times :) )
What do you personally believe? Those around you?

Never underestimate the long-term developmental damage Watchtower inflicts on JW youth. Budgeting, education, and saving are life skills required for success. JW kids start life with serious handicaps that have to be addressed and overcome.
