I'm in management, anyone who isn't willing to work overtime shouldn't be in managment. How can I ask others to do what im not willing to do....
i would strongly suggest not raising religion at all, it's both irrelevant and a legal minefield.
im in a bit of a bind and im not quite sure what (if anything) i can do about it.
i was recently hired as a business consultant for a rather large company.
the company that hired me mentioned that they are concerned about a certain department and the way its being run, as this department affects every other department in the company.

can anyone shed some factual and historical light on this subject?
Smhid day, go and have a look at how much stuff the ancient Islamic world had. much of it got lost during the dark ages.
I suspect the simple explanation is that each culture makes steps based on the previous ones, but if your culture vanishes, or gets exterminated the advances you have made get lost...

"if it were really a matter of indifference what we belive, then we might just as well build our bridges of cardboard as of stone, or inject a tenth of a gram of morphine into a patient instead of a hundredth, or take teargas as a narcotic instead of ether; but the intellectual anarchists themselves would strongly repudiate any such practical applications of their theory.".
intellectual honesty requires a match between the real world, the practical world where things either work or do not work at all.....and the state of mind inside your head.. if there is any mismatch at all the blurred line fuzzes out into failure to recognize what is real and what isn't.. jehovah's witnesses replace the real world with an artificially constructed one.
Terry, I'm sorry to hear of your experiences with therapists. I have used a few and found them either to be fantastic or no good for me..
I think that a lot of the secret is to find the right personality for your own personality type....
one woman I saw was lovely, but far too nice for me, another was much more straight on,and we got on like a house on fire!
if after you die you find yourself in front a god ready to judge you.
what will you say in your defense for not believing?
.
Perry, presumably as an ex jw, can you not see that you are in fact engaging in the black and white thinking that jws are guilty of?
How do you know you're god is the right one? you can't possibly know anything of the sort. How about being slightly less narrowminded and certain of your position?
many members just as in the catholic church have molested children and are not punished nor turned in to the police..
Lisette, that is just unbearably awful. I am SO sorry that you were betrayed like that.
my own story is a little less dramatic, thankfully. My stepfather was a uber-witness.
Looking back from the perspective of time I would describe him as a controlling, abusive bully.
I suspect I was a difficult child, I can remember being very young, and standing up to him, saying,go on hit me again... not very wise, but I did have balls anyway!!
He was pretty big on hitting me with a stock whip...
I used to go to sleep every night praying he would die...
But, what he did that was far worse, was make me cover up child abuse that I had seen with my own eyes. of course me and the victim, didn't count as two witnesses..... The perpetrator was an older teenager, and it eventually was revealed that he went on to abuse many many other kids..
I must confess to feeling so much guilt over that. I was a VERY clever kid. I should have known better....
what do you think?.
I spend a lot of time in a culture where everyone without exception believes in magic and spells...
I have met lawyers who work for the un, who are totally convinced of it.
It is all pervading, and anything you like from loosing your job, to an unexpected illness, accident, death, you name it, is all explained by black magic.
i don't believe any of it, but for those who do, it's extremely powerful....

Perry,
I have missed your explanation. Please tell me your particular reasoning as to why humans will be in trouble with no deity to judge them?
what will you do if you get there and it's Allah, Isis, Diana,or Buddah, or the Easter Bunny for that matter?
You only have this particular god due to the time and the place of your birth
for your arguments to have any merit, you can't use scripture as your proof of evidence for a creator.
fortunately I havent needed any imaginary friends to teach me ethics and morals. It's a major fallacy to confuse ethics with religion...

Perry, why do you think there is a huge problem if God doesnt judge sin?
honestly, that is a baffling opinion and statement...
why do you need any deity to behave morally?
if after you die you find yourself in front a god ready to judge you.

So, Perry, following your argument, how do you justify the murder, genocide and general smiting in the OT?
How can you be sure that your personal God exists, and none of the other thousands do?
I think all of these stories confirm is a deep felt human need, but that doesnt constitute evidence of any divine existance.
