I won't get it actually if they change the verses.

Just in case you missed my point, I think recent editions of the JB don't do that anymore. But of course I can only guess from the French editions.

    The Classicist,

Where have you found your new avatar?

I very much enjoy the renderings in the Wisdom books in the JB, then again, I enjoy the Anchor installments as well, and especially the Berkeley renditions of the OT. It's all good!

Oh, I just harvested it off the IUSY website. There's not many socialist avatars on line, so we need to find our own.

LOL. Here we haven't seen many of those around since François Mitterrand was (first) elected in 1981... didn't know it was still going on internationally.

The New Democratic Party (of which I'm a member) is a member of the Socialist International, so every once in a while you might see someone wearing a pin like that. Perhaps it has a bit of a different connnatation in France, perhaps a one of socialist solidarity against this Mittterrand fellow?

Actually Mitterrand popularised the "rose and fist" symbol in France (I still don't know if it had been borrowed elsewhere). When he was elected in 1981 (after decades of right-wing leadership) his first official act was to enter the Pantheon in Paris with a red rose in his hand and deposit it on Jean Jaurès' grave. During the electoral campaign Barbara, a very famous French singer, dedicated a song to him: "The Man with the Rose".

It was one beautiful spring in France. You should have seen the faces of the Branch Committee members when he was elected (and shortly afterwards appointed a few Communist members in his first government). So much for "theocratic neutrality".

How's that for a thread hijack? Erm, buy the Jerusalem Bible, folks.

If you don't mind reading online and can ignore the LDS stuff:

This is the King James Version with oodles of cross references and explanations.
