Why not, "Why are you giving credit to a bunch of people. Aren't you supposed to give Glory to Jehovah?" See...with their warped way of thinking, they cannot distinguish one from the other.

    BillyGoat,

Spot on! That is the single hardest thing to overcome in my experience with trying to help WItnesses wake up.

They elevate the Organization above God, but if you ask them they know it is not. It is a dissonance similar to that required of Catholics who believe the Pope is the final authority in all matters Spiritually. They would never say he is above God, but they believe his word carries MORE WEIGHT than God's.

Jehovah's Witnesses do not believe they have a doctrine of magisterium and boldly decry the Catholic Church for their doctrine of magisterium, but if you supplant the Pope/collective Bishopric with the GB/FDS you have an identical match in the resulting effect.

The problem is, is that Christians are Christians because they believe there is only one way to God; and that is Christianity; and oh, ya, my specific brand of Christianity.

Generally speaking, Christians have reduced God down to an own-able commodity. They have shrunk God down to a thing separate which is attainable only via my beliefs. It's all bogus. Christians will argue their doxy until the day they die.

    JamesThomas,

Is there no room for Christianity in your doxy? If not, I have misjudged you.

I think I got your point, but there are a lot of Christians I know personally who do not try to convert others to their doxy or insist that their doxy is the only way to God.

I remember going with my wife to mass one time and the priest starts out with the question of why there all these different religions and denominations etc. to which I of course perked up instead of slipping into my usual semi-comatose state. He continued on that this was so because God was bigger than that, not able to be pigeonholed into a little shoebox of faith and dogma, and that we needed to quit thinking in terms of us and them, and just think in terms of us.

So it would seem this particular priest agreed with you James, the incredible shrinking God is not the way to go.

I have no doxy, no limits or bounds to what is Divine. Which, indeed leaves room for Christianity....and also room for me to poop on them.

Of course there are Christians who do not try to convert. As mentioned I'm speaking in generalities.

I, personally, see no need to spend alot of time pointing out what everyone else is doing wrong.

Homer Simpson: "..Maaaarge; Some times the only way you can feel good about yourself is by making fun of other people.....And I'm tired of making other people feel good about themselves!"

Hee, hee! JamesThomas, THAT is what I previously judged to be the case!

You were starting to sound like a querulous old goat for a minute there.

I do love asking my Mom, where did you learn that this or that church teaches this or that. She tells me, she read it in a publication. My reply is, so I should believe what other churches teach about JW?

I don't see the point in attacking another persons beliefs, and tell her, if you don't want people to pick yours apart, why do you do it to others?

Jehovah's Witnesses is a counter society. That is, they exist out of critic of competition. Without the competition they have no core doctrines of dis-belief, e.g., dis-belief in the trinity, dis-belief in the immortality of the soul, dis-belief in the fire of hell. It's a counter society that states it's core doctrines in terms of what they do NOT believe.
It's easy for me to NOT CHANGE that which I do not believe in and have never believed in. Its a shell game of the bastard religions.
