Hey there...well...I have mentioned in the past that I had been scoping out churches with a humanist bent in the area.

Anyhoo, I finally made it to the Humanist Fellowship of North Texas this morning. They rent a couple of rooms at the Plano UUA church. It was small, but it was really neat.

My husband actually went with me...blow me over with a feather! He really enjoyed it as well. In fact, we went ahead and decided to join. We really liked the "feel" of the meeting, and stayed for the business meeting after the service. They run the church in a very democratic fashion, which is a nice change...at least for me any way hahah. The people who formed this group were members of the North Texas Church Of Freethought, but wanted to run their group a little differently. One thing that impressed me is that they didn't have anything bad at all to say about the NTCoF...I may still visit them once in a while too, but think I would want to be more of a regular member of the HFNT.

Here are the links again, if anyone is interested in either group:

http://www.humanistfellowship.org/ they meet in Plano, TX. Currently they meet once a month, usually the 4th or 5th Saturday of the month. This is a family small church so far, but I hope to help get the word out on it, if you will, so others that are looking for something like this can find it.

http://www.churchoffreethought.org/ they meet in Irving, TX. They have services once a month, and other activities throughou the month too. They are bigger group, I think they have 100 members or so.

Again, from what I have seen I think both groups are good, they are just run a little differently.

I just wanted to share. I am pretty excited...I know a lot of humanists/atheists don't really have a need for a church, but I really miss having a place to go. My husband and I both volunteered too, he is the webmaster and I am the historian (not sure yet what to do there hahah...need to brush up on Robert's Rules, they use that for their business meetings and such.)
