Seen today on our kitchen window - a fly!
Yep, the trees in the backyard are budding, the nights are milder, and now even the flies are getting ready for a downunder summer!
Woopee! The cold nights of winter (so-called) are almost past.
Now how do you know summer's coming?
Almost Fall here so all the flies are dying.
I always think there's a smell in the air...maybe it's the flowers.
The college students are sunbathing on Bascom Hill.
The first day it is over 60 degrees the sun worshippers appear.
Also the lakes are free of ice.
There are four seasons here, winter, winter, road construction and winter.

YAY...it's great to see signs of spring. Does it snow by you at all? How cold are your winters?
The leaves are turning brownish and even falling off of the tree outside my window as we head into Fall. Of course, this is the stupidest, ugliest tree ever as it never look very good and drops ugly tobacco colored sap all over my white car. I should find out what kind of tree it is so that if I ever move, I don't purchase one for whatever possible new property I might buy.

One of the first signs of spring around here is seeing people driving their convertibles with the top down.
In my house, it's when the kids beg to not have to wear their boots to school, and come home with soaked sneakers and socks because they found some puddles to walk through.
We're looking for the first signs of autumn now... and last week saw a single maple tree down the street that had started to turn red. *sigh* Actually, I'm looking forward to the cooler weather... my 40-something body produces enough heat as it is.... LOL
LOL! I couldn't believe someone posted on flys.............we just bought fly swatters and sticky tape for the buggers in our house.......(Sunny gathers all the pests up and sends them down to Ozzie since he's sooooo happy to see them). Good on ya mate, glad spring is springing for y'all down there! For me, in CT, it's when I see the first robin..........although the poor things have been caught some years by massive snow falls that bury the worms they are so eagerly hunting for..............I've seen dozens of them sitting in the snow covered trees.........we are just ending our summer here and moving towards fall..........in about two weeks, we'll start to see small changes of color in the leaves on the trees........this is my favorite time of year.........nothing like the smell of fallen leaves on a cold, crisp fall evening!!!

That depends on where you are - Australia's a big place, a continent in fact, so we have three climate zones, well two officially! We have the northern tropics and the southern temperate zone. I rather fancy the southern portion is different to the mid-section where there are many children who don't know what snow is! It's never snowed in Sydney. At times Sydney has a frost in the inland suburbs. I don't think we had a frost this past winter though. Nights in Sydney are down to around 13-14 degrees celsius. Inland it gets down to freezing at night.
But really it all depends where you are, there's such a difference in temps.
Oh yes, we do have snowfields - on the southern alps - that's part of the Great Dividing Range, not far from Canberra and some of our fellow posters.

It feels so weird for you to be talking spring while our own summer is fading.

I'm happy for you. I so know the feeling of "spring in the air". To me, it is the most wonderful feeling in the world. I am located in the Adirondack mountains. It is a rather rough area. Go 20 miles south or west from here, and it's all different. But right here in the mountains, we get about 6 months of snow each year. I hate it with a passion. As much as spring is the most wonderful feeling, seeing the first leaves fall is about the saddest feeling I know.
