I heard that account on the radio as we drove home. I heard this song on Garrison Keillor's show last night.
Louisiana 1927
Artist: Randy Newman
Album: Good Old BoysWhat has happened down here is the wind have changed
Clouds roll in from the north and it started to rain
Rained real hard and rained for a real long time
Six feet of water in the streets of Evangeline
The river rose all day
The river rose all night
Some people got lost in the flood
Some people got away alright
The river have busted through cleard down to Plaquemines
Six feet of water in the streets of EvangelneCHORUS
Louisiana, Louisiana
They're tyrin' to wash us away
They're tryin' to wash us away
Louisiana, Louisiana
They're tryin' to wash us away
They're tryin' to wash us away
President Coolidge came down in a railroad train
With a little fat man with a note-pad in his hand
The President say, "Little fat man isn't it a shame what the river has
done
To this poor crackers land."

heathen....Zep covered it (and rearranged it musically), as it was originally written by Memphis Minnie. I was just listening to it today while driving (as a passenger ;)) in the Sacramento delta, on top of the levees on both sides of the river. Still have it ringing in my head...

before some well meaning dub tries to tell me that this is an unprecedented event and sure sign of the time of the end ... We can point out that it happened less than 80 years ago.
Sure, but, see, the 1927 flood was caused by Satan to mask the fact that the end came in 1925, just as Rutherford said it would. Are you all blind?

New Led Zep fan here!
Thankyou for the great research....much food for thought.
Yeah, like I think I wont be moving to the Mississippi Delta too soon!
If history is repeating itself again, then maybe the black vote will make a big difference in the next election?
