What would the hall think?

Recently we had gone for a long walk (family) with the end goal being a catholic church to buy some goodies. Keep in mind this was the end goal of a very long walk. Walk was beautiful, food was yummy, a good time was had by all. Next day my jw decides to run up there in his car to get more! We were out of state and he could have just eaten something else at home or even packed a lunch. Yet he made the choice to support the catholic church for the good eating! I didn't say a word but isn't that a no-no to support a church? There really isn't anything else around where we were. thanks, carla

    Hi carla. You're up early!

Yes it's frowned upon. I remember some literature about it in the '70s-'80s. Don't know if the current literature emphasizes it or not.

My jw relatives do things similar to that. I wonder if it's one of those things they do because they can get away with it.

How come they serve food at a church?

"Let your conscience be your guide."

Though they would frown on it, I think it is a 'conscience' matter. You know, yet another hypocritical 'rule' that can be bent by those who wish to bend it.

How come they serve food at a church?

It's all part of a way of life. We are having a banquet/service tonight at church in connection with our prayer ministry. Every Wednesday afternoon we have dinner together before our worship/prayer/teaching service because it's a lot easier for families to eat at church in the gymnasium and then go to the sanctuary than to go home fix dinner and rush to church. We eat together and then go worship together. Another identifying trait of Christians who really care about one another. It is so un-JW like that it took me a couple of months to get used to eating with a whole congregation instead of just those in my clique at the KH.

I noticed at the new KH they built they had a refrigerator and a little area where they could eat in the back of the hall. Maybe they will try this.
