If the dream was shortly after Daniel had been presented to him, there is no problem here.
At Daniel 2:26, Nebuchadnezzar does not say that he doesn't know Daniel, but he asks whether he is "competent enough" to reveal the dream, so it is possible that Nebuchadnezzar had already met Daniel but did not quite know the extext of his talents.
Given that the 2nd year (accession-year system) of Nebuchadnezzar was Daniel's third year in Babylon, it is quite possible that Daniel 1:20 and Daniel 2:26 refer to the same event.
It is unlikely that Daniel explained the dream before the events of Daniel 1:20 because otherwise Nebuchadnezzar would already have known that Daniel's skills were greater than those of the other magic-practicers.
