The New World Translation is a translation from the Bible languages to modern english. The english NWT is then translated to other languages like french, german, and so on, just to make sure everyone, no matter what language they are reading the NWT in, will get the same meaning as in the english language NWT.

Yes this was true. My old French NWT was translated from the English version, and it was obvious. Since 1996 however, the French NWT has been translated directly from a Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek texts. Needless to say, the new NWT reads better than the old one, but as with the English one, it still maintains its characteristic wooden, stiff, verbose manner, which comes from an attempt at translating the original texts, for the most part, word-for-word.
