Jehovah's Witnesses say it is wrong to salute the flag, but it is alright to parade it around the tennis court and encourage others to salute it. ...

It`s money again. Like all young boys in my country, I wanted to play soccer when I was a kid. All my classmates did, and of course, so would I, but my (cheap) father said no, on the grounds that I wasn`t supposed to spend that much time with the "people of this world". The real reason was that he didn`t want to pay the tuition, the football shoes and the suit. To this day I`m mad at him for that, cus I suck at playing soccer, at least compared to all other men in my country, most of which played soccer as kids. Getting that technique in at an early age is important. I just look silly trying to play with a ball, and in a couple of years my own kid will be old enough to start playing, and I`ll have to play with him, exposing my lack of skills to other dads, etc...don`t look forward to it, no.

I used to play football all the time (soccer) but couldnt take it further because I decided to choose being a JW. Rarely used to be able to play out of school hours etc for teams but managed to occasionally.

I'd like to see leagues made up of various denominations...Kingdom Hall vs All Saints Catholic... Etc Do you think there's any chance? Do you think some witnesses might enjoy it?

lol I did my own thing. Played football (rugby) when I was a wee little lad with my worldy "friends," but not very often though.

Played brandings and handball (not the pool one like in the olympics, the one with the concrete squares) in my street.

I always hanged out with worldy people! lol Never really thought about it that much before.

My mum figured that the cong was too far away and so were the JW's, so why not just hang around with them?

I remember this one time CO gave a talk how "we do not need sport" then he proceeded to explain how walking up the stairs in field service was exercise enough for our legs, then how we didn't need any stretching exercise as making gestures while explaining the bible verses would do the job, and so on.

ROFLMAO... oh my goodness, im absolutely flabberghasted... gesuring while explaining bible verses is exercise??? LOOOOOOOOOOOOL

i haven't laughed this hard in a good few weeks... i don't know how the hell you managed to keep a straight face throughout that talk, LOL

When I was about 10 I went to the local park with a neighbourhood friend. He was on a softball team and the team was practicing that day. When I was a kid I enjoyed playing softball and was not too bad of a ball player. The couch tried to encourage my brother and myself to play but I would not allow myself to just enjoy the moment as of the Jdub guilt feelings. It is sad of the rubbed childhood of many of young Jdub youths.

I remember one sister being discouraged from getting massages ... others sis's thought it was immoral to have a man touching you

That reminds me of the time I met a massage therapist that my ex was working with. I was telling this therapist about my bad back and she said that I should try some massage therapy. Well my ex had a fit as if I wanted to have sex with the woman. As in some of my other posts, you know my ex was the biggest prude going. Unfortunately I could have used a massage but there was no way as long as I was married to that bag.

This is a familiar rant for me. Sports was the be all and end all for me. The battles with my parents began with little league baseball and pop warner football. Long story short I started playing on the sly (forging their signatures etc.), I was really quite slick for a runt but eventually got caught. There was the big throwdown and they caved and let me play, dad lost his priveleges over it and now looking back I realize what a sacrifice he made for me.

To tell a kid that wants to play they can't is like telling them they can't breathe, its just horrible.

As an aside the only serious injury I ever recieved playing sports was with a-hole JW's who wanted to show their stuff on a Sunday afternoon as they had no where else in their miserable life where they could show their stuff so to speak.
