The Soviet Union, and most other countries for that matter are leaps and bounds beyond the US when it comes to preventive medicine. One of the earliest and most comprehensive herbal references I have was a result of USSR research into Native American herbology.
We aren't privy to this information in the US because there is no profit in it. If your MD in the US suggests a remedy to an ailment that dosen't require a manufactured drug it's most likely based on research he has done *outside* of his formal training.
Peppermint tea dosen't generate a lot of income for pharmaceutical companys...
