The Fog Of War- Documentary on Robert McNamara as Secretary of Defense during the Vietnam War. The parallels to Afghanistan and Iraq are chilling. NcNamara was lectured by a VietCong leader years after the war that for them, the Vietnamese, they had been fighting for independence and were not puppets of the Chinese and Russians noting they had been fighting Chinese takeover for 1000 years. The Afghanistans, in a similar vein, have been fighting outsiders since before Alexander the Great.
The Cold War produced real and imagined enemies similar to today with radical Islam and what real goals they have and ones the West imagines on top of those purposes. The Domino Effect was very real in Southeast Asia, South America, and Africa yet so was Western Imperialism and its capitalistic aims and the puppet governments it established such as the Shah of Iran and Noriega in Panama etc..
