WT inflating their numbers?

This past Sunday our visiting speaker stated that 5,000 people are baptized each week

If he was talking of worldwide growth, that's on a pace with simple disfellowshippings which I believe run at the rate of 1% annually (some 60,000). And that goes along with Ray Franz's revolving door expression.

I'd love to have someone like our Rod P. check their books and see just how much cooking is going on.

    Ozziepost,

No, I have not read any of Franz's books yet. I will be doing so in the not too distant future.

In the meantime, I would like to get my hands on some of the Annual Yearbook Statistics over the years. I know that these can be analyzed to extrapolate the figures to get a handle on the turnover rate(s) over the years. Anybody know of any stats available online?

    Fatfreek,

Thanks much. I have taken a cursory look at them, but will look closer later.

However, we may have to use sources outside the WBTS, combined with the WT Stats.

The other thing, I really need to look at their stats on an Annual basis, going back over a number of consecutive years. The more decades I have to look at, the more significant the resutls. You cannot get a real perspective analysing just one year. I am trying to determine "turnover" factors.

Anyone out there with CD-Rom access to the yearbooks over a period of years, something where you can simply copy and paste for Rod?

Jehovah's Witnesses do not inflate their numbers. (there are rare, but insignificant exceptions)

I tend to think that apostates may be exaggerating their numbers...

I am from Scotland too. I am afraid to say exactly where because the elders scare me. I wish I could meet up with you freedom fighter. I need to talk with someone who knows what hell I am going through!!!

Let's be gentle on SlimboyFat everyone. The above is from one of his earlier posts. He needs compassion.

I was a regular pioneer for many years and saw the creative ways some JWs counted their time and definitely not according to the official directives from the WTS.

Starting your time from when the you left your house

Starting your time from when when you left the service center

Rather than starting your time when you knocked on the first door, made your first phone call.

Ending your time when you walked through your door

Counting the time during the 45 minute to 1 hour coffee break

I have attended groups for telephone witnessing, 5 people, 1 phone, yet everyone counts their time. The other 4 chat and eat.

Calling a return visit who is never home and then driving across town to call on a return visit that is not home during the day.

Picking up your dry cleaning, laundry, children from school, doing some quick grocery shopping, and still counting time.

We had a thread on this and found that it is world wide, not regional, and even if on 50% do this, the numbers are bogus.

More along the lines of what Blondie said.

My sister regularly takes a walk to a light house to place magazines, it takes her an hour and a half there and the same back, she maybe spends 5 minutes placing the magazines but she puts it all down as 3 hours.

The biggest obvious "so called increase" with numbers was when they said that anyone could report time if they did just 15 minutes in preaching in a month. I think evilforce mentioned it.

LOL I wonder how the figures changed after this new rule? I wonder if they actually DID increase or they just stayed the same because there were so many leaving?

RodP I'd be very interested in your stats analysis over the years.
