Shane Brady forgot one:
"So the question really is: When it comes to medical treatment, then who should decide: the state, the doctor, the religion, or the capable patient?"

Since when was Shane Brady QUALIFIED to give a medical opinion?? I thought he was a lawyer.
==============
IMO, he is not even very well qualified to give legal opinions! ;)
In Hawks post:
=================
"Like every other Canadian, she was seeking a second opinion," Brady said, adding that their motive for going to Ontario was misrepresented.
=================
Um, I am just guessing here, but I'll bet good money that she was looking for a 19th or 20th opinion. Are we to believe that she was unable to get a 2nd opinion in her home province? I don't think so!
One more thought:
==================
The girl and her family had wanted to seek cancer care at a children's medical centre in New York with doctors experienced in providing cancer treatment without blood transfusions.
================
I would be interested to know if that "medical centre in New York" has an address 25 Columbia Heights, Brooklyn. At the very least, it would interesting to see if it is entirely or partially funded by WTS money. Creating your own (unscientific) medicine standards is not much different than the Mormon Churches funded science lab that is mandated with finding evidence for a 6000 yr old earth, and disproving the evidence to the contrary. After all, if you can't find competent experts to agree with your opinion, make your own! ;)
jgnat: GREAT POINT!!!

LOL!!! God damn I'm on the floor here rolling around. Too funny.
Seriously - the interesting part about all this is that in BC, like in Ontario, the Doctors are not going to give her a transfusion unless she absolutely needs it.
In other words the Court is not ordering her to have a blood transfusion right now. Its order only deals with a "life saving" transfusion if her red blood cells get to low during the chemo treatment and the Doctors need to give her the blood to save her life.
To this day I wonder if this girl realizes she can have a whole allogeneic (from the blood of others) blood transfusion if all the blood is fractionated out to the Watchtower's own rules and then given to her in separate tubes all at the same time. I also wonder if she realizes that whole blood transfusions are allowed by the WTS such as intraoperative autotransfusions.
If she is presented this evidence in a very quiet and questioning way, I wonder just what might happen since AJWRB says a large majority of JWs will infact accept blood when a private and confidential presentation is made to them.

Hawk, the problem is (IMO) this girl has become a poster child, the case of the week, for WTS. Even if she starts to feel doubts, she is under a spotlight. I fear that that pressure has pushed her firmly into "don't question Jah's Organization" mode, far more so than at any time in her life.
Still, there is nothing wrong with providing factual information; you never know WHO it might help.
With regard to the excuse that she was travelling to Toronto (and then New York), the newspapers are reporting that the Jugde did not believe their explanation and he believed that is was an attempt to flee the court's jurisdiction in B.C.
With regard to Shane Brady's ability to be honest in a court of law the National Post reports that the Judge said the following to Shane Brady:
"Counsel, you're spinning," said Judge Paisley, addressing the defence.
"You're saying something the doctor has not said. What he did say is that her case could deteriorate suddenly. If she does not continue with the treatments she has a big chance of not surviving. Today she is supposed to resume treatment, but instead of getting her treatment, she's here in court."
Apparently Brady was representing to the court that the doctors had said that she was not dangerously ill "Lawyers for the girl tried to argue she was not dangerously ill, and that, even though she is a minor, she has the right to refuse medical treatment."
Guess Brady was hoping that the Judge would come to the bench unprepared having not read the doctor's reports and he could pull a fast one on him.
My hat's off to the judge. He knows a weasel when he sees one, and knows what the real issues are.
As I remember, the judge in the Hughes case had some sharp words for Watchtower legal as well. I wonder if brother Brady ever has a twinge of doubt.
Has anyone else here had the media try to get in touch with them? I was emailed by Global and City TV, and they wanted to talk to some former JWs. By the time I checked my email it was too late to call phone them but I responded by email.

iiz2cool, CityTV spoke to Beans for 30 minutes yesterday. Then this morning he saw the Global TV crew on the street getting opinions on the same story, so he "un-witnessed" again.
Hey, how did they get your email address? I too want to be on the media's short list for getting sound clips about witness doctrine and dogma!

Quotes, I think they got my email address from the ex jw meetup site. That's the only place I posted this particular address. I was once contacted by a magazine that was going to do an article about Prince and that's where they got it.
