Bingo. You hit the nail on the head. It's no different than a heart/lung machine and as such, she's being kept artifically alive---something she expressly said she didn't want to do.
If Schiavo told relatives that she didn't want to be kept alive by extraordinary means before she lapsed into apparent unconsciousness 15 years ago, she "may not have been fully aware of how precious life is," said Don Bania Jr. of Corcoran, a quadriplegic for 34 years.
Or maybe she simply realized that she would not want to live a life of pure hell like she's been forced to for the last 15 years by her parents.
