    talesin and steven,

The service is called IPTracker... I wrote it myself. The only part I did not write was the FTP component which is an free-open source app that I downloaded.

Oops! Now I get it. I just got those files last week, the same time I did my Windows update, same amount of space thingy happening there, so I wondered.

lots to learn ... working on it ... ;)

Sorry, else, but I think it's you that doesn't understand dyndns! You do not have to purchase another domain name. You use one of theirs. And we completely understand this is for your home computer!

If you are dead set against using another's DNS service, just use your own. Make sure DDNS updates are enabled and you could probably use one of the many DDNS services that have already been written.

Your request is a common one and several good solutions are already available. No need to reinvent the wheel.

I know... I just don't like the current "wheel" that is available. I don't want another domain. I already have one and that is the one I want to use. *** Crosses arms like a suborn child ***

This is why I'm inventing my own wheel.

Bottom line is this: what I have works perfectly for what I need and want, and it only took me a little while to write it.

Anyway, getting back to the original problem of memory usage. I have been keeping an eye on it and over the last day the memory usage of the service has actually been going down. It started out around 14 MB and now it is down to 3 MB. If you are wondering, no, I have not changed anything. I've just left it running to do its thing and the memory usage went down all on its own.

About the same time SNG logged out of his online game, I gather? There you go, there's your answer.

I'll never understand computers as long as I live. Anybody who continues to live in the fantasy that 'computers only do what you tell them to do' deserves whatever comes to them.
