The Internet easily beats "house-to-house"

Last night in choir rehearsal at church, a woman asked for prayer for her family and for her daughter. Seems like her 28-year old daughter had just met and married--within 3 months--a very nice man, but who is a Witness. This lady was (to me, anyway) understandably upset.

She didn't explain the difficulties already happening within her family, but it sounds like there's already been some drama. The extended family is not happy at all about a quick marriage to someone whose beliefs they only know as very eccentric.

The good news is, she's had a few discussions with him about his beliefs, and he doesn't sound like he's a hard-core JW (I guess that goes without saying, really; he married outside of the JW faith).

I'm writing this because I feel so glad that there are ways to help someone like her out! The internet is a great threat, and now that we have successfully petitioned the UN to affirm that the WTS had an NGO relationship for 10 years on their website... and as this concerned mother can easily research and bring to him what she finds... like www.freeminds.org. Then there is more hope for this marriage and all the relatives.

The WTS spends countless hours making just one convert ("and when he becomes one, (they) make him twice as much a son of hell as (they) are"), but the internet is able to dissolve the years of deception within months, weeks, days, or even just hours. Years ago, arguments could last forever and end up in a draw. Now, the WTS stands to lose another drone like *that. But even if not, there is suitable a bit of tail-between-the-legs and whimpering, instead of pompousness.

Anyway, after I get her number, I'm going to call her today and find out first if she/her daughter is online.

That's what I love about the internet also. They can indoctrinate a child for their whole life since birth but as soon as they question and hit the internet...POOF gone in minutes. Gotta love it

As I've said before, I am convinced that if the WTS were to fall, it will be directly because of access to information found on the internet.

I had a good short conversation with the lady. She's a bit elderly.

However, she is online, as is her daughter and sil! Sounds like her sil is not active at all (and suffering some upset from his own family for marrying outside of the faith), but still believes their basic theology. She says their religious discussions have been interesting so far, and he considers her comments as she also considers his.

She sounded quite happy to learn about the online UN letter and other resources online. She's got the address for freeminds now, too. I'm going to talk with her a little more next week when I see her. She says she'll read up in the meantime.

She doesn't have to do too much herself... just know what little questions to ask, and have him look for the answers online...
