Does The Thought of Being Disfellowshipped Bother You?

I have to say for myself it bothered me at first, but now that I have matured and put aside the guilt.I kinda like it. I think it is funny when I see a JW they have that constipated look. You know the pursed lips etc. I always say hi and they look like they are going to have a heart attack

I'd rather not go through all that. But at the same time, as time goes by, I don't really fear it.

I'll never sit in a judicial committee meeting so if they want to oust me, they'll have to DF me in absentia or announce that I've DAd.

But fading has worked pretty good for me. No one is on a witch hunt to get me. The JWs that I'm friendly with don't treat me badly. A couple of family members get on my case occassionally but I just deflect it for the most part. It's been a pretty boring event actually. For awhile I kept waiting for the phone calls and drop-in visits from elders. Outside of a couple sheparding calls early on(one that ended badly for the elder who got obnoxious in my home) they have left me alone. I run into old JW friends around town and we have decent conversations and I've even shared a beer or four with a couple.

But it's still an up and down thing. Some weeks I hardly think about JWs at all and then all of a sudden I'll get this feeling of paranoia or of impending doom like something is going to happen, but nothing ever does.

Like Blondie, if I were ever in a possition to be df'd I'd da first. I like the newspaper ad thingy. I'd get the press in on it too!

To get DF'd now would be like closing the barn door after the horse got out. Pointless. And in my case, very unlikely as I've been out 25+ years and the elders of that cong 1- are dead now 2- couldn't track me down easily 3- couldn't give a rat's arse.

However, I do NOT want to be DF'd as I feel it's none of their bloody business who I am and what I believe. It's my choice not theirs.

I just reopened a relationship with my very elderly parents and would not want it jeopardized.

PS DF'ing is sort of like being fired, and I was fired only once.

The job I was fired from was part-time secretary for an insurance agent, for taking an unpaid, prearranged 3 day vacation. I was replaced during my vacation with a secretary for $2 less per hour. She was fired 3 months later because she got pregnant and threw up on his office carpet. He was Catholic, not a JW.

    It bothers me right now.

I have to be really careful not to get myself disfellowshipped any time soon. My poor parents up there in age and with all kinds of health problems. It might them both or at least one of them over the edge. They depend on me for so much as it stands now, and I love them very much.

I guess I'll sacrifice 'til a more convenient time in the future.

    I agree with Purza..

When i was df'd it was the absolute worse thing in the world. I lost the relationships with all my friends and family, everyone and everything i ever knew in my whole life changed. Of course, years later now, my life is different. I have the elders lack of love and compassion to thank for me making my final exit, and now i dont even consider myself disfellowshipped anymore. I dont allow them to have that control over me, i am no longer associated with their organisation.

To some it is the worst thing in the world, there have been people that have commited suicide over it, and to others they just dont care. So, it all depends where you are in your life.

Still, why disassociate?? If I were to go to the papers, I would say, "THEY" took action against me.

  • PinTail

Its bad if you were suckered into having no other friends other than those in the kingdom hall, then it is a major "B".

Would you care to elaborate on that?
