Was discussing blood and he started in with the "if your doctor says don't drink alcohol and then you get it in an IV" argument and I said... "If you get a liver transplant are you a cannibal" and he started saying no of course not (his daughter before she died got a lung transplant) then he just got this dumbfounded look on his face and walked away! Maybe his BRAIN TRANSPLANT suddenly kicked in!!!

You just might want to print this out from next time:
Organ Transplants are Cannibalism -
blondie
Transfused blood cannot be used by your body as food anymore so than can a transplanted heart or kidney.
Consider two patients who are unable to eat, and are admitted to a hospital. One is given a blood transfusion and the other intravenous feedings, which one is receiving nourishment and will live? Clearly, doctors do not prescribe blood transfusions to treat malnutrition, but rather to replace something your body has lost, usually the red cells needed to transport oxygen and keep you alive.

No reputable modern doctor or scientist would state that a blood transfusion is a feeding on blood, or the equivalent of eating blood, but rather an organ or liquid tissue transplant as the Society itself now acknowledges. 10 To overcome this fact the Watchtower has created a new law for Witnesses by stating that it's wrong to sustain life by means of blood. The problem here is that nowhere in the Bible do we find such a restriction on blood stated in those terms. Is eating and sustaining life the same as the Watchtower argues? Well, there are many things that we do to sustain our lives like drinking, breathing, sleeping, etc. Eating is just one of the things necessary to sustain life. This word shuffle is both dishonest and reckless on the Watchtower's part, and obscures what the Bible teaches, "going beyond the things that are written."(1 Cor. 4:6)

As seen earlier, the WTS has appealed to certain doctors to support their ideas that a blood transfusion is eating:
Excerpts that show how the WTS deceives the average JW."It is of no consequence that the blood is taken into the body through the veins instead of the mouth. Nor does the claim by some that it is not the same as intravenous feeding carry weight. The fact is that it nourishes or sustains the life of the body. In harmony with this is a statement in the book Hemorrhage and Transfusion, by George W. Crile, A.M., M.D., who quotes a letter from Denys, French physician and early researcher in the field of transfusions. It says: ?In performing transfusion it is nothing else than nourishing by a shorter road than ordinary - that is to say, placing in the veins blood all made in place of taking food which only turns to blood after several changes.?" (The Watchtower, Sept. 15, 1961, p. 558)
What the WTS does not tell its readers, is that this doctor, Jean Baptiste Denys, lived in the 17 th century! Medical science long ago abandoned this idea. Later, the Society tried to appeal to another authority, the Dane Thomas Bartholin, but now they at least admit he also lived in the 17 th century. Why has the WTS found no support for this peculiar idea among more recent medical experts? Because there are none. Not even the medical doctors who are themselves Jehovah?s Witnesses will ruin their reputation by supporting this claim. The simple fact is that a blood transfusion is an organ transplant, not nutrition!

regarding the blood issue.. i always thought the scripture that says " no greater love than to give your life for your brother" should come into play.
blood = life
life = blood..
why not give blood to save your brother? why not accept the life your brother offers and accept blood?
common sense tells you that yes, you should use caution if you need blood.. makeing sure its from a safe source.. not using it lightly .. it does carry some risks as does many other medical procedures. but saying its against gods laws doesnt make sense to me.

So sad that the common-sense of Christ escapes them:
MK. 2: 24 "The Sabbath (or Law) was made for man, not man for the Sabbath."

This doesn't surprise me. I had an elder visit me because my meeting attendance had dropped off. In his visit, he started reprimanding me and suggesting things about my spiritual health. ( As if they know anything about theirs)
He started paraphrasing a scripture about one isolating themselves and I listened respectfully. After a while, I asked if he could give me the chapter and verse of the scripture he was paraphrasing. He stumbled and became self-conscious and thought I was trying to put him on-the-spot. He wanted to know why I would ask such a question. I told him it was because I knew the chapter and verse he was talking about. (Ps 18:1)
He became irritated and asked what that proved. It proved that he was not talking about anything that I was aware of already!
Yes! Elders are brain-dead unless someone else is doing the thinking for them. Leaving them in stunned silence is not very challenging.
