Am I being hacked, or do I need a new mouse?

I seem to remember someone saying one time that if your cursor won't control, and goes all over the screen, it means you are being hacked. Mine is doing that, but not all the time. It is very irritating. It's like I am not in control of it.

    Does anyone know?

Mulan, I would check the bottom of your mouse. Sometimes dust and crap gets in the roller ball and makes the mouse go crazy. You can get a can of air to spray it clean.

oh, come on, Mulan...you know what it is...it's DEMONS cause you come to this site! ;)

Honestly, though, I have heard that about the mouse and hacking thing. Do you have a firewall? Can you run spybot seek and destroy or a similiar program to be sure that you don't have any trojan horses or anything on your machine?

I don't know if a mouse would move the cursor on its own because it's broken, usually when a mouse dies on me, the cursor won't move at all.

hopefully someone with more expertise can help you out more than I have I just couldn't resist lol

    love you!

I have a firewall, so probably isn't that. Maybe demons though. Thanks Essie.

I have a Dust off spray thing right here, and will try that. I can take the mouse apart too. Forgot about that.

    Thanks.

This happened to me. I cleaned it out and it worked fine. When it started up again, I got a new mouse and it's been fine since.

If your keystrokes start going wacky, THEN you might have a virus or someone is "keylogging" you. Type "keylogging" into google for more info.

My mouse doesn't have that little ball. Damn. It's a red light and I can't open this mouse.

It's a red light and I can't open this mouse.

I have two cats and their fur tends to get in the way of the light causing the mouse to move erratically.

Check to see if any dust or hairs are near the light.

This is an optical mouse. It usually has less issues than a regular mouse. But usually you can spray the red light...there is usually a little crevice or hole where the light comes from. Maybe that would help.

I have the same problem and have attributed it to having an opitical mouse. Maybe we can try cleaning (as suggested) and as a last resort replacing.
