What does it mean when a JW says they are "inactive"? Does it just mean they don't go door to door, or does it mean they've stopped attending meetings too? Thanks in advance.

It means that a jw has not reported field service time for 6 months or more

Thanks for the quick reply. So being inactive does not necessarily mean they quit meetings too?

Some use the term "inactive" loosely if a jw has stopped going to the meetings. But officially its when they dont report time for 6 straight months, which usually means they have stopped going to meetings anyway.

If a jw misses 2 0r 3 mos here and there they are classified as "irregular". Its all about the time...that is basically how a jw is measured anyway.

While sporadic or nonmeeting attendance is frowned on, it will not get you labeled "inactive," Weak probably, but not inactive.

I once knew a brother who went in field service by himself without a territory and mailed his slips to the PO but did not attend meetings. Believe it or not, the congregation recorded his time until the CO came and said that if he did not attend meetings they could not accept his time slips....

I always thought that inactive was simply the opposite of active.

How did it get this complicated?

Irregular and Inactive... sounds like bowel and urinary tract issues.

An 'active publisher' has turned in field service time in the past six months.

An 'inactive publisher' has not turned in any time for six or more months.

An "irregular publisher' is one who has not turned in time for at least one of the last six months.

Therefore, if you have not turned in time for five months you are not yet inactive, but irregular; you have been irregular since the first month you missed.

This is per the WTS instructions to secretaries for recording and keeping field service reports. When the CO makes his visit every six months, he wants the totals for all these categories and will discuss those numbers with the elders at their official meeting during his visit. These figures also make their way onto his report, which he first reads to the elders and then mails to the WTS.
