Terror Expert says new attack coming-what do you think?

"All of the warnings we have today indicate that a major strike ? something more horrible than anything we've seen before ? is all but inevitable," said Yossef Bodansky, former director of the U.S. Congressional Task Force on Terrorism and Unconventional Warfare, in an interview yesterday with the Jerusalem Post.

Bodansky said "the primary option" for the next al-Qaida attack on American soil would be to employ weapons of mass destruction.

"I do not have a crystal ball, but this is what all the available evidence tells us; e will have a bang," Bodansky told the Post, adding al-Qaida is "tying up the knots" for an attack.

Bodansky, author of "Bin Laden: The Man Who Declared War on America," and "The Secret History of the Iraq War," said the jihadist movement is gaining strength as Osama bin Laden's call to arms draws an increasing number of recruits throughout the Muslim world.

Since the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, Bodansky said, the number of people trained and willing to die has more than doubled to an estimated 500,000 to 750,000. Intelligences estimates say another 10 million are willing toactively support them while another 50 million would provide financial support.

Bodansky was in Israel for the second annual Jerusalem Summit, an international gathering of conservative thinkers, the Post said.

Al-Qaida has not carried out a second major attack, Bodansky explained, because the first one sufficiently sent the message to the Islamic world that the U.S. could be penetrated, and a second attack necessarily would have to be more grandiose.

Now, however, the re-election of President Bush has set the stage for a massive attack with non-conventional weapons, Bodansky believes.

There has been a debate between bin Laden allies and some Islamic leaders over the propriety of such a large-scale attack on U.S. citizens, he told the Jerusalem paper. But, according to bin Laden's mindset, that has been resolved by the American electorate backing Bush and thus "choosing" to be enemies of Islam.

Though some debate and doubt may linger, the planning for an attack is finished, Bodansky believes.

"They got the kosher stamp from the Islamic world to use nuclear weapons," he said.

Bin Laden's theme has shifted since 9-11, Bodanksy said. Previously, perpetual confrontation and jihad against the U.S. was seen as the only way to protect Islam. Now, the emphasis is on punishing American society.

"Just as the West was challenging the quintessence of Islam by means of the globalization era, there was a parallel need by Islamic extremists to strike at ? and hurt ? the core of American society, this time with weapons of mass destruction," Bodansky said.

Heard that 2 years ago and nothing. In fact it was the U.S. who struck....Iraq.

I wonder if these experts "go short" on the market and then put out the fear.

Al-Qaida No. 2 vows to continue fight against U.S. Al-Zawahri makes threat in tape on al-Jazeera
NBC News and news services Updated: 8:37 p.m. ET Nov. 29, 2004

CAIRO, Egypt - Osama bin Laden?s top deputy, Ayman Al-Zawahri, said in a videotape aired Monday ? but apparently produced before the U.S. presidential elections ? that there was no difference between the American candidates, and he vowed to continue fighting the United States until Washington changed its policies.

    advertisement
?We are a nation of patience, and we will continue fighting you until the last hour,? al-Zawahri said on the tape, an excerpt of which was aired by the Arab satellite television network al-Jazeera.

Seven times previously, a broadcast statement by al-Zawahri has preceded a major attack by al-Qaida by a month or less.

Reference to presidential electionAl-Zawahri, an Egyptian physician, also spoke of the Nov. 2 U.S. presidential elections.

?The results of the elections do not matter for us,? al-Zawahri said in the excerpt, which was about three minutes long. ?Vote whoever you want, Bush, Kerry or the devil himself. This does not concern us. What concerns us is to purge our land from the aggressors.?

He accused the United States of trying to coerce the Muslim world through force to satisfy Israel and to achieve its own interests. He said the invasion of Iraq was only a prelude to what the whole Muslim world might be subjected to by the United States.

?What the crusader forces do not occupy today is its next target tomorrow,? al-Zawahri said, according to a translation by MSNBC-TV.

Terror war hurting U.S. in Muslim world, study shows

At one point, he spoke directly to the American people: ?Either you choose to treat us with respect and based on an exchange of interests ... or we will continue to fight you until you change your policies.?

It was unclear whether al-Jazeera planned to show more of the tape later.

Al-Zawahri, bearded and bespectacled, sat before a white background, half-covered with a blanket. His voice sounded calm and steady, as in previous tapes.

He did not refer to bin Laden, who warned in a videotape broadcast last month by al-Jazeera of possible new attacks of the magnitude of those of Sept. 11, 2001.

Bin Laden also spoke to Americans in that tape, saying: ?Your security is not in the hands of Kerry, Bush or al-Qaida. Your security is in your own hands. ... Any state that does not mess with our security has naturally guaranteed its own security.?

Al-Zawahri tapes may have been shot at same time
U.S. intelligence analysts, who spoke with NBC News on condition of anonymity, said the videotape may have been shot at the same location as the most recent previous videotape recorded by al-Zawahri, which was aired Sept. 9.

A U.S. official said that the background in the videotapes appeared to be identical and that a rifle seen in the background of the video aired Monday appeared to be the same one in the Sept. 9 tape.

The official would not say whether the CIA had a copy of the al-Zawahri tape in advance, as it did the bin Laden tape last month.

The United States has offered a $25 million reward for the capture of bin Laden and al-Zawahri, both of whom are believed to be hiding in the tribal areas along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border.

U.S. intelligence analysts pay nearly as much attention to the timing of such broadcasts as to the content because seven statements by al-Zawahri have been followed within a month by major al-Qaida attacks.

On an eighth occasion, al-Zawahri called for the assassination of Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf. Six weeks later, would-be assassins believed to be linked to al-Qaida tried to kill him twice within 12 days.

Al-Zawahri, the former leader of the terrorist group Egyptian Islamic Jihad, has himself been sentenced to death for his role in the assassination of Egyptian President Anwar Sadat in 1981. He is also charged with conspiracy in the deadly bombings of the U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania in 1998.

U.S. intelligence officials have refused to speculate about whether the al-Zawahri tapes might contain calls to action for al-Qaida cells, but officials of the Homeland Security Department have acknowledged that one upgrade in the U.S. terrorist threat alert status was triggered by the release of an al-Zawahri tape.

Perhaps Bush should have gone after Bin Laden on September 12th instead of screwing around with his thumb up his ass and then decide to invade Iraq instead. Iraq is a modern day version of a Whipping Boy. (For those of you that aren't familiar with this term, hundreds of years ago, if you were in charge of a royal Prince and he misbehaved, you weren't allowed to whip him, because he was royalty, so instead they had a regular boy and he was whipped whenever the prince misbehaved.)

The last 20 years has seen both Canada and the USA allow terrorists by the truckload into our countries, cause God knows we can't appear to be discriminating against ANYONE, no matter what their character may be. Trying to round these scumbags up now is like closing the gate after the horses are gone..........what's it going to take for Bush to go after Bin Laden? Another 9-11? These terrorists have no fear of death, in fact, they look forward to it, so they don't care how many thousands of "infidels" they take along with them..........I say it's only a matter of time before something big happens again......I can see them using germ warfare on us........something that could kill millions instead of just a few thousand.

President Bush did go after Bin Laden right after Sept 11th, by attacking Afghanistan, where Bin Laden was. We tend to forget about Afghanistan because of the Iraq war.

Predicting successful terrorist attacks is like predicting earthquakes. It just cannot be done on a reliable basis.

I seriously doubt that any "reputable terrorist organization"* would EVER use WMD in a first-strike. Doing so would cause them to loose public support in the Islamic states and no terrorist organization can function without support from the local population.

Any state that had anything to do with the terrorist organization would come under intense world pressure to hand over the terrorists... and they WILL hand them over or face severe world sanctions.

Any state that actively participated in the WMD attack would cease to exist 45 minutes after the attack.

    * Reputable terrorist organization: Meaning an organization that has populare support in the Islamic world.

Oh pu-lease, that whole Afghanistan thing was a pathetic joke..........the question is: why the hell would he give up on Bin Laden so easily and attack Iraq when they had nothing to do with 9-11?? There were no WMD, but there's black gold in them thar hills..............if he had gone after Bin Laden withe the same gusto and enthusiasm that he's shown in Iraq, Bin Laden would be 6 feet under by now.............

Bodansky claims that an attack has been held off till now due to a debate in the Islamic world over the morality of a WMD attack. Al-Qaida has now been given the go ahead by the clerics to use nukes. He also believes they have obtained a Soviet warhead from one of the former republics of the USSR, so it wouldn't be a small crude bomb.

How reliable is Bodansky's information? It scares me to no end to think about this, and what he has written, along with the other information gathered, seems this is imminent and very close to happening. I am seriously tempted to sell off what I can, and get the heck outta Dodge. Seeing as how the Government here appears to sometimes be egging the terrorists on, I wonder if there is something that we ourselves can do to stop this from happening. Maybe a petition of peace, signed by thousands, tens of thousands, even hundreds of thousands, letting them know that there are those of us who just want to live peaceful lives, and offer the same courtesy of letting others live their lives in peace. There are many, many of us who do not want war, yet we will end up paying with our lives along with those who have it in their hearts to fight. It is such a shame that the good people will be taken along with the bad.
